Corbin vs South Laurel 3/5/18 (13th Region Championship Game)

Single Wing 77 Wrote:Are you kidding me? He coaches at one of the biggest schools in the region, on top of that south Laurel has decided that they are only going to try to compete in basketball. Since Jep Irwin left they have purposefully tried to bury their football program, and they have let baseball slip considerably. South play basketball and girls sports, the rest are just fundraisers for the basketball team. The 2016 team would've won a state championship if they'd had a decent coach who would've made a certain kid pass the ball. Instead he was chucking up contested threes from the cheap seats against Doss and getting them put back in his face. You can call him a legend all you want to, the fact is that he is more cry baby than anything.

Were you at Rupp for the Doss game? I was and your narrative is great fiction. Even a win over Doss would have led to a difficult match with Dunbar and Tavieon Hollingsworth

How many times did he take you behind the woodshed?

Too many for my tastes, although I have to give some of the credit to his asst. coach at the time as well.:HitWall:

Having Roscoe Denney on the bench was a huge asset.

Brent West does not get the credit he deserves for his help at Corbin. I wonder how many guys behind the scenes are as good as those two in their game prep?

Roscoe hahaha. I’ll leave that one alone. As far as tonight goes and back on topic, Corbin is clicking at the right time. If they play like they did against KC it’ll be another 10+ point game. I see corbin taking by around 8 though. Close game and Corbin sinks it at the stripe toward the end

Lol. We would take your opinion on what a good coach and fire power was, if your coach hadn't looked so terrible Saturday, and you claim he's the greatest coach in Kentucky. Your coach was suppose to have firepower to compete for state and got beat down by Corbin. (Which should've never happened.)

Good luck to both teams tonight. Come next Wednesday I will be wearing a Corbin or South shirt into Rupp Arena :bball:

I wasn't there but I watched the game live on nfhs. The game plan was basically to dribble it at the top of the key and then chuck up a three and hope the two bigs rebounded the miss. Worked for them most of the year, but Doss blocked a bunch and got a lot of easy transition points. At least that's how I saw it.

If Corbin wins I'll be wearing my Corbin stuff. If south wins I'll probably go and will pull for them as I always pull for whoever represents the 13th region. I will not be wearing south stuff though. To quote Doc Holliday, "my hypocrisy goes only so far." Haha

I saw a very long and athletic Doss deny entry and penetration. Also seen South maintain a lead throughout the game, but athleticism on Doss’ side was superior and made the difference in getting key offensive rebounds and limiting SL to one and done on offense.

Also seen a horrible block call on Caleb that put him on the bench during a crucial late fourth quarter run by Doss.

But it was length at all positions that hurt the most. But I know that doesn’t square with your simple narrative that SL’s offense was shoot and rebound. Guess it worked wonders when they upset Christian co and destroyed a decent South Oldham in the Elite Eight 🙄👌

The wonder boy coach should've figured out a way to get his bigs more involved, or let Ramey shoot a few more threes to soften up their defense. Instead he let the point guard hang out at the top of the key and that is where the superior length of Doss took over.

To me, saying that you lost because you were less athletic is the same as saying you lost because your coach didn't know how to play to your strengths. South was the better basketball team.

The Christian county line is bogus, they were the most over rated team in the state that year. They only lost two games in the regular season, but they didn't play a single team that made it to rupp other than south. South beat who they were supposed to until they met Doss. A good coach would've been able to get them past Doss.

This is hilarious, you make Doss out like they were on the talent level of OBI. Doss was able to disrupt SL, and that’s what good teams do.

SL or Davis has nothing to hang their heads over, a Final Four run in any given season is special.

Still looking for when your Hounds made a state semifinal appearance or further. I’m seeing 1950. Is that correct? Wow, bet not many of us remember that blockbuster season. Was that when white dudes with crew cuts would shoot free throws granny style?
