As someone else already pointed out...if he only won because he walked into a ready made team then tell me why Trimble didn't win with that "great" team? The problem is that just as there were people complaining about Trimble now we have people complaining about Starns. You can't please everyone. Coach Starns is a top notch coach. He knows his stuff...he just has to put up with alot of crap until he can get rid of all of the left over Trimble players who while they played under Trimble hated him and did nothing but complain about him....and when Trimble was history and they had a new coach what do they say about him? They hate him and do nothing but complain about him. Nothing ever changes.......does it?

I really hope Starns stays at JC this year. Yes he has a different approach to coaching than what we usually see in eastern Ky., but I think that is a good thing. The best thing I like about Starns is that he plays his players to their abilities, not who their parents are. For example, he moved Robert Smith to a varsity starting position as a freshman because he was absolutely hustling and giving 100% in JV.

When the players and parents realize that HE WILL PLAY the 5 most agressive, hardest working, give 100%, play as a team, respect the coach, get the job done, run the plays that the coach requests..............PLAYERS, JC will have a successful basketball program.

No Trimble didn't make it to state, but the team was good. When Starns took the program, the team was more mature and more talented. Half of it has to be beacuse of Trimble.Agree? Of course people complain and gripe about everything if their team is on the rocks. That is in any county. I agree with you on that! The one thing that gets to me is a coach has to have their heart into the school, the game, and the team. I have seen it before at JC, but I can't say I see it now.

Then perhaps you need to come and sit in on a few boosters meetings....or just simply get to know Coach Starns. He loves these boys. In his first season at JC he had a player who lost the grandfather who was more like a dad to him. Coach Starns rallied the boys behind that player. He sat them down and told them point blank....we have a brother who is hurting and we need to support him with everything we have. Then move to last season just before the big rivalry game against Paintsville....Coach told them if they won the game then he would let them body paint him for the girls game against Paintsville which was the next night. JC brought their game and they won that game and Coach Starns true to his word let the boys body paint him and he went and sat in the student section with all of the other painted fans...many of which were his players and he yelled his head off and had a good time with the boys.

Coach Starns has received alot of flack from fans, parents, and players alike....and I think that the day Starns leaves JC the administration will be making the biggest mistake of their careers in letting him get away. But I'm thrilled to know that he is returning next season. We truly need to be more supportive of Coach Starns and his staff...but more than that...we need to be supportive of our school...and our boys. They are the ones who truly matter....to me and to Coach Starns.....don't believe all the rumors you hear that Coach Starns doesn't care about these boys....because it is simply not true.
