Arizona State 88 UCLA 79
#1
An 88-79 victory over the UCLA Bruins in front of 14,025 fans packed into Wells Fargo Arena finalized a sweep over the LA schools.

"It's great. It's a great feeling just to go out there a play the way we did," said Kodi Justice. "Offensively, defensively, and all the things we did as a team sharing the ball, it was just great all around."

Arizona State's highest conference point production this season was led by guard Shannon Evans II with 23 points. Evans II tallied a team-high in scoring for the fifth time this season.

The first 20 minutes was a back and forth affair. The visitors led 22-20 with at the 9:34 mark. Evans II changed that with a three, followed by Tra Holder with one of his own. Arizona State (19-6, 7-6 Pac-12) led the rest of the contest.

The second half featured Arizona State maintaining its eight-point halftime lead and extending it to 16 towards the end of the period.

ASU had just seven turnovers, the second fewest in the past four seasons. The Devils capitalized on 12 UCLA (17-8, 8-5 Pac-12) turnovers, scoring 11 points on Bruin giveaways.

"The key over the stretch of these two games, especially the USC game was the turnover differential and same thing tonight," said Hurley.

Holder notched his 33rd 20-point performance in Saturday's victory, adding a team-high four assists in the victory. The senior snatched six rebounds in 36 minutes of action.

Freshman Kimani Lawrence is beginning to come into his own. Lawrence scored eight points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

"He is a great kid, team guy, and isn't putting his head down because he isn't playing the minutes he hoped he played," said Hurley. "His season would be entirely different if he didn't have the injury. He gets in and puts the work in, works on his game, and works hard in practice."

Arizona State's final field goal came at the 3:54 mark on a jumper from Evans II. Up nine with 1:49 left, the Devils found themselves in a free-throw competition.

Holder, Justice, Evans II, Martin and Mitchell all stepped to the charity stripe in the final two minutes to secure the victory. Arizona State scored 25 from the free-throw line, a season-high.

After a tough shooting night against USC, senior Kodi Justice found the bottom of the bucket against UCLA. Justice notched 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting while dishing out four assists and snagging four rebounds.

Forward Romello White also contributed to Arizona State winning the rebound battle, clutching five boards of his own.

Aaron Holiday led UCLA, scoring 20 points before fouling out with 36 seconds to play. Holiday also led the team in assists with five.

"It's hard on Aaron," said Bruin head coach Steve Alford. "We went from (Alonzo) Trier to (Tra) Holder and he was tasked with both of them. I thought he got in sync early and was good late. But we understand what he's going through. He's got the toughest assignment every night."

The Bruins went on a 6-0 run in just under a minute to cut the lead to nine with 1:57 to go. It was too late as the Sun Devils cashed in on their free-throws.

"Any time you lose it's a lost opportunity," said Alford. "To win on the road in this league is tough. I don't think there's going to be a lot of teams winning in Tucson and Tempe."

Arizona State is home against the University of Arizona on Thursday, Feb. 15 in its next matchup.
