#1
Jairus Brents, Waggener

Kam Butler, Covington Catholic

Jake Chisholm, Ryle

Blake Gamble, Johnson Central

Trevor Grant, Graves County

AJ Mayer, Covington Catholic

Rondale Moore, Trinity

Matt Shearer, Simon Kenton

D’Mauriae VanCleave, Danville

All-State and Mr. Football balloting began Saturday. The results will be announced at a later date.

Moore, the top-ranked recruit in the state according to 247Sports, was originally committed to Texas but announced his commitment to Purdue on Saturday. The wide receiver was considered the frontrunner for Mr. Football coming into the season and helped lead the Shamrocks to back-to-back Class 6A titles in 2016 and 2017.

Butler, a defensive end, and Mayer, a quarterback, helped lead Covington Catholic to its first undefeated season in program history and to a Class 5A title in December. They’re both headed to Miami (Ohio).

VanCleave, a do-it-all speedster who played both sides of the ball all season, led Danville to and undefeated sseason its first state title since 2003. He hasn’t committed to play anywhere at the next level.

All but two of the players named (Grant and Shearer) were named to the Herald-Leader’s 2017 Class of the Commonwealth.

I think it will be hard not to give it to Rondale Moore. Kid is flat out good. And is going to be a good college player at the highest level. I like seeing eastern kentucky get an athlete on the list and I would like to congratulate all the players being named a finalist because all of these kids had great years. On a side note how does Stoops and Petrino let Moore go first to Texas and then Purdue. I think they both should have got on this kid earlier and kept him in state.

Wasn't Moore originally from Indiana before transferring to Trinity?

Yes.

Rolandan "Deuce" Finch won Mr. Football as a native of Indiana for Louisville's St. Xavier.

Good luck to each of these players. They are deserving.

On a side note not one mentioned has the University of Kentucky landed? A step farther not one kid from KY? This may be better served on a different thread.

Probably. Both brothers graduated from Trinity and I believe both are still active in the Trinity community. That would definitely give him an advantage in recruiting.

Brohm has been strong in recruiting Ky talent since he was hired at Western and I don't think that will stop anytime soon.
