Estill County 68 Owsley County 48
#1
Final from Booneville
#2
Treadway played big minutes today but Estill was missing starting small forward Brewer due to injury.
#3
I honestly thought Owsley would have been more competitive at home.

Congrats to the Engineers!!

Owsley falls to 0-5 in district, guaranteeing Estill a matchup with Powell in the first round of the district tournament.

That's not a good look for Owsley or Gibson. 0-5 in a decent at best district.

When two of your top 3 scorers are 8th graders it gives an indication of the youth and inexperience of this team. Owsley has had difficulty with most teams press this year. Knott Central and Leslie, for instance, pretty much had all 5 defenders on the on their own end of the court in their press. A lot of opponents get many of their scores off forcing Owsley turnovers. But make no mistake about it, these kids will all be back next season and while they have been needed this year at a very young age, this season will certainly be a big boost for next year's squad.

Gibson played on the perimeter and drove to the basket. She mostly shot outside of 15 feet. She didn't play in the low post any. Kind of surprising.

I agree.

I'm a little curious as to why there were so many saying that Owsley was the best team in the district at the beginning of the season and now the excuse is youth and inexperience. Lee County is actually younger, when it comes to players who see major minutes and play almost every game. Morgan Hinkle is only a 7th grader.

Lee Co is not a younger team than Owsley. Lee has a 7th grader that sees minutes but beyond that they are sophomore and up. Owsley sometimes starts three 8th graders, a sophomore and junior and 6th person is a freshmen. Haven't looked at everyones roster but Id bet Owsley is youngest team in 14th region. Teams in the 56th better take full advantage of it now because in the near future NO ONE will have an answer for them.

That's wishful thinking... They better do it next year.

I can guarantee that isn't wishful thinking. Before you get on here and get type happy you better come watch some games of freshmen/middle school age. The last 2 yrs Owsley has had their way with every school in the 56th at the middle school level.

Younger. Let us see.
Lee Starting lineup

Sophomore

6th person Sophomore

Owsley Starting Lineup
Junior

Freshman

8th
6th person 8th.

Looks like Owsley is the much younger team.

Not wishful thanking at all. You might want to check around before typing. When you get done you'll find out that Owsley has been dominate in the 56th for past several years at freshman, middle school, and elementary levels. Their young group will be in hunt for the region for several years to come. If your a Owsley fan get ready to enjoy a nice ride for the next few years. If your an opponent you better be ready to play because I guarantee they will be.

Ok, I will admit when I am wrong. Owsley is the youngest team in the district. I took into account all players who have played in at least 15 games or more and here are the results with average grade level of the players on the team.

Estill County: 10.50
Powell County: 10.14
Lee County: 9.67
Owsley County: 9.13

You're definitely right about the future. I think that Lee County will be the best in the district and one of the top teams in the region next season, but the next three seasons after that will be Owsley's.
