Top Ten 2A games of the week ending 9-26-15
#1
I think we have another great week of 2a games slated this week. I hope you all will agree. Without further ado, here we go:

1) Shelby Valley 2a @ Prestonburg 2a
Man, you talk about getting this thing off to a great start. How much better can it get. This is a REVENGE game from the word go. Pburg edged SV in the regular season meeting last year by a touchdown 26-18, only to turn around and get it the same way in reverse in the playoffs 14-20. Both teams finished with similar records last year as well. Pburg came out at 10-3 and SV at 11-3. They both appear to be doing pretty well this year as well. SV comes in at 3-1. Pburg comes in at 2-2. This should be a well fought, hard knocking, epic game.

2) Murray 2a @ Russellville 1a
Here we have a game between 2 teams with much the same game plans, and the same type of respect in their perspective classifications. Both are mostly old school run oriented offenses, with big linemen and lots of speed hiding behind them. Both schools have rich traditions. Both schools have had a similar foe hiding in their way in their districts in the past. Both teams are currently ranked highly in their classes as well. Both teams also finished with almost identical records last year. Murray finished up at 9-5 and Russellville at 9-4. Murray has gotten off to a slower start this year but still come in at 3-2. Part of that could be attributed to a some injuries that are now healed though. Russellville appears to be right on tract though, as they come in at 5-0. Russellville is a very intimidating atmosphere, and a very hard place to get a win. This should be a great one to watch.

3) Mayfield 2a vs Corbin 3a (at Lindsey Wilson College)
Here we have a great game between 2 teams with lots of tradition, who have met before several times in the state championships. This game has lost a little of it's luster though, with the injury to one of the top backs in 2a (Trajon Bright). Both teams had a great year last year. Mayfield finished up at 14-1 and state champs of 1a. Corbin finished up on a last second loss to the 3a state runners up at 11-2 on the year. Both have similar records this year as well. Mayfield comes in at 4-1, with a loss coming in overtime. Corbin comes in at 3-2. This too should be a great game to watch. It will be interesting to see if Mayfield can find the offensive output to pull this one off without their top back.

4) Lexington Christian 2a @ Fairview 1a
Here we have a game between 2 teams that have had great runs since the early 2000's, and appear to be headed in that direction again. Both teams are highly ranked in their perspective classifications. Both finished last year in close to the same fashion. LCA finished up at 6-6 and Fairview at 7-5. Both also have similar records this year as LCA is 4-1 and Fairview is 3-2. This also should be a great one to watch.

5) Butler County 2a @ Owensboro Catholic 2a
Here we have a game between 2 really good 2a teams. One that appears to be on the rise, in Butler Co and the other that has been in the elite for some time. Last year BC finished up at 7-4. OC finished 2014 at 10-2. OC also beat BC down last year 52-14 and BC will be looking for revenge in this one. BC is already at 4-1 on the year and OC is already at as many losses as they had last year with a record of 3-2. This is a great one brewing. It should be fun to watch.

6) Webster County 2a @ Fulton County 1a
Here we have another game between 2 teams that need to find wins any way they can. These two finished last year in much the same fashion as WC was 1-10 and FC was 1-9. They also are off to similar starts this year as WC is 0-4 and FC is 0-5. This should be a fun one to watch, just remember two things. 1 is stop at Hub's for steak before the game. 2 is bring lots of Deep Woods Off.

7) Glasgow 2a @ Greenwood 5a
Here we have 2 teams that are trying to make a name for themselves. Greenwood is the bigger team but, finished up last year at 4-7. Glasgow finished up last year at 8-4. They are off to similar starts this year as Glasgow is 3-2 and Greenwood is 4-1. Can the little school compete with the depth of the 5a power? This should be a great one to watch.

8) Rockcastle County 4a @ Somerset 2a
Here we have two teams with very rich traditions, that have not been enjoying the success they are accustomed to. Rockcastle did finish last year at 7-5, but that is not what they set out for. Somerset really finished last year in a position they have never felt at 0-10. Neither team has gotten off to an impressive start this year either as Rockcastle is only 1-3 and Somerset is 2-2. Both teams could use this game to build from.

9) Newport 2a @ Owen County 2a
Here we have 2 teams that finished 2014 at opposite ends of the spectrum but are off to identical starts this year. Newport was right in the thick of things last year finishing at 8-5. Owen Co however finished up at 1-9. Both teams come into this one at 1-3 and are in need of a win.

10) Cov Holy Cross 2a @ Beechwood 1a
Here we have a game between 2 teams that finished last year at opposite ends of the spectrum as well. Beechwood beat HC last year 58-0 enroute to a 11-3 record. HC however finished up at 1-10. HC has however already topped their record from last year by posting a 2-2 record thus far. They appear to be better and wanting to get some revenge for last years beat down. They are also the bigger school. Beechwood is coming off a disappointing loss for the first time this season and is looking to get things back to rolling in the right direction. They enter this one with a record of 3-1. This should be another great one to watch.

Well there you go, I think this is a great slate of games. I hope you enjoy, please let me know what you think.

NCC game just didn't have the pop when you look at the numbers. They will have other chances. Remember these are not where I feel these certain teams rank. It's where these particular games rank. Sometimes you will see winless teams making the top ten. That's the beauty of it.

Gotcha, I was thinking these were individual team rankings.
