Prayers up from the Pikeville family. I hope God wraps that community in his arms and gives them the grace and strength to get through this.

It's times like this that make us realize that as much as we love or HS teams, football is just a game.
The 14-18 year old STUDENT athletes that we cheer for are still kids. On Friday nights, for the few hours when they put on that jersey with our favorite teams colors... it's like they are Clark Kent changing in to Superman. Everybody wants to see the kids on their team have an All-American season, but we all know that doesn't happen. That's what makes HS sports so special, they are playing for the love of the game... but with hopes of future glory. Most kids know they won't play college or pro sports, but they suit up every practice, go through 2-A-Days, come early and stay late in the weight room because they love the sport. They've heard their dad, brothers, uncles, cousins all talk about their game winning touchdown in the playoffs in 1992 or the game saving interception against their rival team in 1986. Most kids start off in elementary school playing flag football, move up to the tackle league, go on to the middle school then suit up on Friday nights for their home town team.
I would say when all is said and done, the investigation will show this was nothing but a horrible accident and no criminal activity took place. But with that said, sometimes bad things happen that we can't explain.
All those that know the Word of Prayer, please say a Prayer for Jayvon Quarles family, Hopkinsville Football team & High School and safety for all players for the rest of the season across the Commonwealth.
