TOMCAT NATION in MOURNING
#1
David ( Dirk) Payne died this morning. Still shocked over the sad news. RIP!!!!

While this is a great loss to the Ashland sports program and to its fans, it is also a loss to all who follow high school sports in the northeastern sector of the Commonwealth. All schools need a David Payne. His love for and loyalty to his Tomcats never wavered. He was uncompromising. His contribution to the Ashland program through the years cannot be properly measured and will be leave a void. He will be missed by all- friend and foe. The Ashland program has lost some of its luster. Rest in peace, Dirk.

Was he the man who was honored during the AIT who had been a fan and attended nearly every game since the 40's or 50's?

No owned Ashland Sporting goods and has been calling games on sidelines with Dicky Martin on the radio for 30 plus years. Huge supporter and Tomcat fan.
