JR you might have been asked to play the part Mark Patton has in We are Marshall if it were made in your senior year

Neither could play the 3 spot that Craig Ratlliff played. Craig a much better athlete than Slone or McCarty. The only place they could play on that team would be the 2 guard and neither has Todd Tacket's shooting touch. They could not play the point guard position in front of Matt Ratliff. Like I said they would be 7th and 8th man on this team.I said move Craig to the 4 spot and let them play the three. As I said....It would be Runyon's call. I just think that they could have started and that that team would not have missed a beat. You can't be serious in thinking that gump was better than either of these guys are you?

Josh was a great player, but I personally feel that a lineup of :
Matt Ratliff -PG
Tackett -SG
Slone/McCarty-SF
Craig Ratliff - PF
VanHoose - C
Could have been more of an offensive threat.
Guru, you know I love ya man, but I can't agree with you on this. No way either of these boys could have started on the 95' team, 96' team (State Champs), 97' team or the 98' team. Heck IMO neither could have started on my senior year team (2002-03). They are good both good against the competition they play against, but you gotta think how much weaker the competition has gotten each and every year,

McCarty is by far better than landon slone..if he gets babied at these other games he plays like he did @ magoffin no wonder he has been putting up 25+

That is very true as far as talent goes, SO LONG AS IT DIDN'T MESS UP THE TEAM CHEMISTRY of that team. As you know, team chemistry is very important. Even J.R. VanHoose who played on the 96 team said he wouldn't mess with the lineup because the 96 team played so well together. I agree that your lineup would probably be more of an offensive threat, BUT could McCarty or Slone fit in with the other 96 team members and work with themas effectively or would they have changed the team dynamics?? That is what would determine whether BMR would have started McCarty or Slone on that team and we will never know the answer to that one.

It would be up to BMR, and wether or not it disrupted team chemistry and nobody here knows that for sure. They just say that they could not have started for that team. That is easy to say....but We just will never know!
And JR, man I respect everything you say, but what the hell does breaking a backboard have to do with playing basketball?

That was discussed to show his power, something that we needed inside. Every great team needs someone who can get in there and throw his weight and power around and intimidate people. Josh did that for us, he was our "brusier!!!"

If I'm not mistaken it was. I thought I saw a 96 Regional runner-up banner hanging at MC the other night and thinking that.

Beat them in the District and Region Finals in 95' and 96'. Out of all the teams that I played against in high school, I loved playing Magoffin County. They would battle you the whole game and you knew it was going to be rough!!

Magoffin's 95 and 96 teams were not a superior group of basketball players although there were some very talented athletes on those teams. J.R., what made those teams so difficult ( assuming they were difficult for you, they normally played pretty close to you guys compared to other teams in the region) to play against? I would assume they were pretty physical. Also, do you think they were the second best team in the region those years?

I didn't mind the physical part, but they played so well together as a team, that is what made them good - that combined with Coach Adams made them a tough team to play!!!!
