What does the Russell School district expect? Shocking!

It is hard for a coach to win when a school has little or no talent. Russell, for several years, has had little or no talent. Merle deserved better and I wish him success elsewhere. As for any new coach at Russell, he needs to do his homework before taking the job.

I don't think he did a bad job at all this season. They are so young and inexperienced. I feel like the kids improved a lot. If the talent isn't there then what do you do?

Some decent Talent on the team but very young and inexperienced. I dont care who was coaching that team this year the record wouldn't have been any better.

It is an easy cop out to say he didn't have any talent. However true and accurate that statement may or may not be, player development / personal instruction can go a long way in compensating DNA talent gene pool.
Most schools have relied on transfers for a feeder program and when the transfers quit rolling in then its "no talent this year"
Unfortunately for Pearl Kidwell no good player would transfer in and play for him.

I can tell from the comments that most are people not very close to the program and are looking from the outside in. I'm sure a bad season was only part of the problem. It's a young program because most have quit.

This part could be said with just about with every team in the state.....Those coaches are not around anymore.

Any frontrunners for the job

Heard that Sean Horne has already contacted former UK great Jeff Sheppard. If Sheppard doesn't take the North Laurel job then it looks very promising. If he does take it I hope he does better than the last former UK player that coached at Russell.

Heard he has an interview next week.

I have heard that the release of Kidwell did not go over well to the point where he may choose not to even go to kids banquet. I hope this is not the case.

Look for a quick hire.

Sheppard will not take this job.

How about the coach at Clark County? Isn't he a Russell boy?

Why would he leave a 6A school with talent every year?

Some want to return to their alma mater and to be nearer family. And, in Russell, I'm sure that greenbacks would be as plentiful or more plentiful than in Winchester.

With no teaching positions available, it would be hard to lure a quality coach unless he is a para professional, or a former retired coach.
Of course I suppose a job can always be created, or a current teacher could not be retained after this year.

He isn't going anywhere. We want him here in Clark County - so does his family.

All the rumors swirling around town have tipped the weather vane in the direction of Ashland Middle School Coach Jason Strader.

Jeff Sheppard has been mentioned about every job opening. He must be a wanted man

@RussellSports: RHS has named Jason Strader as new head boys basketball coach. Official introduction on Tuesday, March 17 at RHS at 4pm

What is the thinking behind naming a middle school coach from Ashland to the head coaching job at Russell? On the other hand, I understand that there was not an overwhelming number of applicants.
