Well, we have a very good week for 1a football this week. Most of all the districts will be decided in this last week and we have some games between highly rated teams as well. I am very much looking forward to this week in 1a football. I hope you all enjoy this weeks edition and this weeks games. So, without further ado, here is your top ten:
1) #1 Mayfield @ #5 Russellville
This is a game that much of the state has been awaiting to see just where the top teams in 1a stand. This has turned into a very good rivalry between two storied tradition rich teams. You also add in the fact that Russellville is coached by an ex Mayfield coach and it becomes that much more intriguing. Last year Russellville came into Mayfield, at this point in the year, and punched Mayfield in the mouth. The Cards were in the hole before the fan base had time to adjust themselves in their seats. Mayfield battled back, like champions do, and won the game 42-21. They then tightened their defense late in the year before the 3rd round meeting of the two teams. Mayfield was without their speedster for that game and had to rely on the defense to win 17-0. This year the Cards are quiet a bit younger and appear to be more speedy. They come in with a record of 7-1 and a Lit rating of 102.7. They have outscored their opponents 332-75. The Panthers also come in at 7-1 with a Lit rating of 90.6. They have outscored their opponents 319-89. The Panthers are also a younger team this year. This should be a great defensive game in a great setting.
2) #9 Paintsville @ #7 Raceland
This is another game between two highly rated teams in 1a. This one is to decide supremacy of the most balanced district in the state. This just screams of being a great game and I am sure the Rams are happy to have the gate from this one. Paintsville is a much improved team this year and appears to be healing and gelling at the right time. Last year Paintsville took it on the chin at home in this one by a score of 32-10. Paintsville comes into this one at 6-1 with a Lit rating of 77.9. They have outscored their opponents 280-142. Raceland comes into this matchup at 7-1 with a Lit rating of 94.7. They have outscored their opponents 340-113. This will be one that I cannot wait to see the score of myself.
3) #10 Hazard @ #11 Pineville
This is another great game between two storied tradition rich teams. Both teams are also highly ranked again this year. Hazard won this meeting last year in an offensive shootout, by a score of 50-28. Pineville will be looking to rectify that this year at home. Hazard comes in at 6-2 with a Lit rating of 93.7. They have outscored their opponents 335-185. This being with one of the tougher schedules in 1a. Pineville comes in with a mark of 5-3 and a Lit rating of 53.8. They have outscored their opponents 228-183. I think the Bulldogs run game will pose an interesting problem for Paintsville.
4) Fulton City @ Fulton Co
Here we have a game between two of the smallest schools in the state that play football. This is the second meeting of the two this year. In the first meeting at Fulton City, the Fulton Co Pilots edged the Bulldogs by 2 points. Fulton City is the smallest school in the state and they struggle year in and year out, but they fight in every game to improve. This year is no exception as the Bulldogs come in at 0-6 with a Lit rating of 35.0. They have been outscored on the year 42-300. They do however have a very talented athlete at he quarterback position. Fulton Co has lots of athletic talent and just seems to not be able to find the right combination to make it work. The Pilots come in at 1-6 with a Lit rating of 40.3. They have been outscored 32-298. This is a bitter rivalry and should be a great chance for both teams to improve.
5) Ky Country Day @ Caverna
In years past this is a game that most would look at as a blowout, but this is a different year. We have a down KCD team coming into Caverna. Caverna appears to be much improved. KCD comes into this one at 3-4 with a Lit rating of 62.8. They have outscored their opponents 205-172 on the year. Caverna comes in at 3-5 with a Lit rating of 73.8. They have been outscored on the year by a margin of 198-290. This could be an upset in the making.
6) Berea @ Campbellsville
This is a game between to teams that appear to be very evenly matched as well. Last year Campbellsville won this one on the road by a score of 54-7. This year Berea appears to be improved from the last year version though. Berea comes in at 4-4 on the year with a Lit rating of 36.9. They have been outscored on the year 183-251. Campbellsville comes in also at 4-4 with a Lit rating of 73.8. They have outscored their opponents 211-181. The Eagles appear to have the upper hand in this matchup, but that is why we play them on the field.
7) Bracken Co @ Paris
Here we have a matchup of 2 teams looking for their first win of the season. You know the young men in this matchup will be fighting like they haven't yet this season. Last year Paris won this matchup 49-6, but they appear to be very down this year. Bracken Co comes into this one with a record of 0-8 and the lowest Lit rating in the state at 1.0. They have been outscored 63-282. Here's to wishing them a little success. Paris comes in at 0-6-1 with a Lit rating of 68.6. They have been outscored 42-280. I hope both teams come out of this one with something positive. Good luck and fight hard.
8) #8 Holy Cross @ Bethlehem
This game should decide the district as well. Last year Bethlehem went into Lou Holy Cross and knocked off the Cougars 35-28. The Cougars would love to rectify that at Bardstown. Holy Cross comes in at 7-1 on the year with a Lit rating of 87.1. They have outscored their opponents 276-134. Bethlehem comes in at 4-4 with a Lit rating of 62.6. They have outscored their opponents 239-197. This should be a great game as well.
9) Fairview @ Nicholas Co
This will decide the #3 seed of the most evenly matched district in the state. Fairview took this one at home last year by a score of 49-14. Nicholas Co would love to steal this one at home this year. Fairview comes in at 4-4 with a Lit rating of 79.1. They have outscored their opponents by a margin of 266-243. Nicholas Co comes in at 2-6 with a Lit rating of 42.4. They have been outscored on the year by a margin of 147-259.
10) Jenkins @ Harlan
This appears to be another game between two fairly evenly matched teams. Last year Harlan won on the road in this matchup by a score of 33-0. Jenkins comes in at 1-5 with a Lit rating of 20.5. They have been outscored by a margin of 136-248. Harlan comes in at 3-4 with a Lit rating of 47.7. They have been outscored 131-214 on the year.
So there it is. You guys kick it around, mull it over and let me know what you think. Good luck to everyone and may we all stay injury free.

Misprint on caverna. Their Lit rating is actually 41.8. Sorry for the mistake.
10-20-2014, 01:42 AM
I think you have Brackens opponent wrong..Paris is not 0-6-1 and have been right on the edge of the Top 10 all year long..
