^I posted a good schedule in the other thread. ListServ may not cut it. Start with the top team in 6a, call them, go down the whole top 20. If you still need a game call the top team in 5a, go down the top 20. Hard to believe there won't be takers, but if necessary call all the top 4a teams. What you want everyone to believe is every top team in KY gets people to play them but JC can't. No one buys it except a few JC fans. And I am really done. Good luck to JC, I really don't have a thing in the world against them...

I noticed and several of those schools were called or we have played in the past. We don't want people to believe that at all. What we want people to understand is that some of the top dogs would rather play other top dog teams in their class or that are nearby or those top dogs schedules open dates don't match up with ours. It is tough I'm telling you. Best of luck to you all as well jet.:igiveup:

^That schedule I posted shows you the respect I have for JC. Also, sorry for getting heated. We mainly agree. Even when EKU put the power ratings up I was the first guy to say JC should be 1.

Really, no dog in this fight. But I want to make a point I've not seen anyone address. I've HEARD in the past, complaints about Matney "running it up" against overmatched teams. I do NOT want anyone saying I'm saying he does do that, I've just heard it before. Makes me wonder if some people won't play JC because of the perception that some seem to have? If that's the case, may explain why some if the closer local schools won't play. IMO Pikeville really gains nothing from playing JC because we see a similar offense (similar, not same) via Belfry. Then we see spread vs Prestonsburg, spread mix vs Hazard, Middlesboro run game, etc. I think Pikeville does a good job scheduling to what they need to see in offense and defense. Played Boyle County a couple years ago, etc. really, nothing at all gained from playing JC. Would it be a decent game? I personally think it would be. Would be a great gate too. But nothing really gained playing them. We schedule to prepare against teams and styles we would or should see in 1A deep playoff runs. I think that is what Mayfield does too. They just have fewer 1A schools out their way to prepare them, and schedule a great schedule against good schools fairly close without having to go out of state. Belfry does the same although they play Galila and CAK. That probably stems from both style and personal relationships between coaches. Just my thoughts.

Can't believe this CRAP comes up again...
How many times has the point jetpilot once again wrote been made ?!? If Johnson Central wants to be a state-recognize 5A power vs. a regionally-recognized power (as it should be striving toward), Central needs to schedule games against good 4A and larger competition, NOT 2A and 1A teams.
Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Paintsville, Middlesboro, etc. CAN NOT match the depth Central puts on the field. Heck, these schools struggle with the depth Belfry brings and they're 3A !!
I will say on P-burg's part, there IS a tad more to it. Central refused to play Prestonsburg many years when Coach D. came to P-burg. He can hold a grudge - as simple as that.
Why is this so hard to grasp ??

I always have felt like the "Running Up the Score" connotation is the product of people wanting Matney to be a villain.
I think lots of things have led to this...some fair..some not.
For starters... I think Jim Matney is the greatest troll in KY HS Football. I think he enjoys having a chip on his (and his team's) shoulder and he enjoys when people hate him. At heart he is a man who loves doing things for his kids. Part of where all this came from was JJ Jude's pursuit of the rushing record and subsequently Tyler Pack's as well.
It was very clear Matney wanted his kids to have both records so he did some "creative" things to help ensure that happened. It wasn't so much he was trying to inflate his team's resume, embarrass the other team, or make himself into Vince Lombardi... I honestly think he wanted to give his kids a once in a lifetime opportunity. Nonetheless..detractors are fair for criticism because let's face it..there was some gamesmanship and some of those yards/scores were not necessary.
What isn't fair is the fact JC has a dominant feeder program...typically a dominant Freshman team..and a dominant JV team. All running the same offense. Simply put when JC subs in the JV leading 55-12 there are a lot of times their JV is simply going to be much better than the opposing Varsity, even the Freshman! You have to let the kids play and run their base offense..so when suddenly the score becomes 69-12 instead of 55-12 people are going to be angry.
The other side is JC is a run heavy team. Most of their losses have had a lot to do with a struggling passing game. If they try to work on passing in a game they have in hand suddenly they are "running up the score".. when in actuality if they ran their base offense they probably would score even faster.

jetpilot Wrote:You are the proverbial Christmas turkey. Try calling some of the bigger schools instead of Canadian teams and 1A schools. People know what the deal is. JC doesn't want to play up or really even schools your size. Have you tried to schedule Scott County. State champs 2 classes above you is the equivalent of Pikeville playing Belfry. Every year. Tried calling 2 teams in the top 10 in the class above you? That's what Pikeville has done with Prestonsburg and Middlesboro. Tried calling a perennial power in your own class. That's what Pikeville does with Hazard. I'm done with you, you look like a pure idiot arguing with a fan of a Class A school that plays a tougher schedule than you do.hh:
If JC is so over rated as you say it would only make since to schedule us. I guess when we talk about schedule playing Paitsville week 3 get Pikeville play off ready. However, it appears you coach is much smarter then Pikeville's fan base. Looks like a week 3 would fit nicely in your schedule next year. I AM SURE WE WOULD COME TO PIKEVILLE IN 15.
Hell I would like to get Freshman and JV games from someone other than BELFRY.

Didn't say they were overrated. Please brush up on your reading comprehension skills. For the fiftieth time, if your school is calling out 1A teams, your program is nowhere near where it needs to be.:HitWall:
