Ashland 42 Rowan County 22
#1
final

Poor winless Rowan County.

Rowan County just looking awful and early turnovers really hurt them, giving Blazer opportunities that they were glad to take. These games they are expected to win they really need to, won't be long before Johnson Central is up for them, and that could be worse than the Ironton game was.

Great analysis of the game. Surprised you made it out to watch your beloved Tomcats.

This game and the next three games will be excellent chances for Ashland to pad their statistics. Johnson Central will be another story. I don't think Ashland can prepare for a good opponent playing four of the least talented teams in the state- even if three are district foes. I guess it indicates the overall weakness of the district.

Rowan putting up 22, imo, indicates where 90% of Ashlands issues are. Everyone likes to point the finger of blame at the 2 OCs but lets be honest. Baker gets plenty of touches. 15-25/game is plenty. Long gets his touches as well. And Prince gets plenty of carries and chances to get the ball down field.

Ashland's defense is nowhere near it needs to be. Giving up these type of points to a Rowan Co team thats really not good at all, no disrespect intended, but the Cats issue lies on the defensive and special teams, imo.

Pretty sure They scored 2 of those TDs on our second string and didn't take out their starters. I think only 1 TD was scored on our Varsity. Just sayin...

Regardless it just seems that the defense is more suspect fan the offense. The offense. Has scored points but the defense is allowing to many points to let them truly be successful. If you score 100 points that's wonderful but if you give up 105 you have still lost.

You're looking at this from a final standpoint but be realistic. Even the best teams can give up a touchdown to a bad teams varsity. Ask Johnson Central about how they trailed for a little bit at the beginning of their game against Boyd co. the other night. I don't think you can really diagnose how good or bad a team's defense is by how many their JV gives up in garbage time.

Congrats to Tomcats. No love for Ashland on here even when they win.

Being an Ashland alumn myself, its hard for me to watch this year's team. Unfortunately, when you mention them playing four of the least talented teams in the state, I wouldn't be shocked if we lost to one or more of them? They should really be 1-4 right now. Raceland didnot nbring their A game and if they had they may have won by two or three touchdowns? I'm not sure where the issue lies? There is talent, but they're simply not wanting to play for the coach for whatever reason. Whether he lost their respect somewhere down the line or there is too many cooks in the kitchen, or maybe he's just out of his league? Regardless, this needs to be dealt with before next season, because I think I speak for several others when I say that we are tired of watching our alma mater get embarrassed. Ashland has a storied history in football and the administration needs to realize that when searching for our next coach. The criteria for being the head coach at Paul Blazer should be some among the highest in the state

Big improvement on defense. Looks like a Baker will be more involved and the team enthusiasm was a lot more noticeable. Frustrating that the Cats are two plays away from being 4-1. Good luck against the B.C. Lions and keep working hard.

Glad we won kids needed a W. Coaching is bad, O'Byran was told to blitz the A gap on every Defensive snap. Coach told him to hit the center and fullback on every single play. I think just maybe I would try something different after the first 10 carries and 300 yards by the Ironton RBs.

I agree. LBs need to be able to read and adjust. When u stunt them every time, even without a coach telling then to, the RB, TB, and FB in the T or Bone will make adjustments and even if the play is called otherwise, an experience backfield like Irontons will start to counter alot of dives on their own.
