The Johnson Central Lady Eagles and coach Rice return to the 15th region championship game since the '08/'09 season. From 4 straight seasons of not making out of the district... to winning the 57th district tournament and playing in the regional title game.

From what I heard on the radio, it sounded like JC owes a lot to the officials. Two of Pikeville's best players foul out? That isn't suspicious at all.

JC will play the winner of Shelby Valley vs. Magoffin Co. tomorrow at 8pm at the East KY. Expo Center.

I wasn't at the game... but I did listen to the game on WSIP and the way B.J. and Scott was calling the game.......
It sounded like there was some confusion between the head scorer and the scoreboard operator about what players had how many fouls.
One Pikeville player fouled out very early in the 4th on a loose ball. And another Pikeville player fouled out on a reach in foul in the 4th.
This game was played IN PIKEVILLE..... Any game at the Expo center should be a "Home" game for Pikeville. There is only like 3-4 minute drive from Pikeville High School to the Expo Center.
Calling a good win by a JC team that is still on Similac "Suspicious" and saying "JC owes a lot the officials" is just poor sportsmanship.

Potter does not foul out and Pikeville wins this game.
Told you guys one team from the 57th wouldn't be in the championship.

The calls WERE inconsistent, but can't blame the loss on one thing. Backups were actually keeping the game very close and still a chance for the win until the T on Coach Spears. That put it out of reach, was a 4 point swing as the JC player missed 2free throws from the foul, the T FT's were made, then 2 more points when they got the ball back due to the T. Lead went from 4 points to 8, and with Potter on the bench, that's a hard hole to climb out of with all freshmen and at least one 7th grader on the floor in the final minutes. Not having Looney in there due to injury hurt them on the boards in the closing minutes as well.
So there were several things that came into play that cost them the game, not just the refs. But I will say, I was disappointed to see the coach from JC leave most of his starters in until 29 seconds were left in the game even though it was well in hand by them. That was just pouring it on, IMO. Good luck to both teams on an injury free championship game.

So I think that contributed. As for the Expo being home game for Pikeville, not really. They play on that floor about as much as any other team. JC fans traveled well and they were mostly VERY classy as far as I could see. Good atmosphere for a back and forth game.

Pikeville never pulled their starters!! Just the 2 that fouled out!!

eagle 777 Wrote:Pikeville never pulled their starters!! Just the 2 that fouled out!!You're mistaken. I personally saw everyone on the bench except 3 get put in once the game was out of reach. When the game was decided, JC still had their starters in and did not pull them until 29.5 seconds on the clock. Game was well out of reach by then and Pikeville coach had already started emptying his bench. Game was effectively over when the coach got the T and Nunemaker and Potter were on the bench, and Looney was out with her leg injury. I would have NO problems whatsoever if it were still a 4 point game, for example, but 10 point lead with a minute left and basically no offense on the floor for Pikeville? Just my opinion, JC coach should have his starters out at that point. Didn't say he was a bad guy or anything, just thought he could show a little more class than that.
