Ryle HS- New Head Coach Mike Engeler
#1
I was going to keep this quiet but it's completely out of the bag thanks to our rival site.

Mike Engeler OC of Lexington Catholic will be new head Coach.

I am gathering info on him at the moment.

I am told by multiple sources Mike Woolf will remain on the staff. Not sure of role. I am extremely happy to hear this. All official announcements will come Monday.

This has not been confirmed but if true, what is the scoop on Mike Engeler. Initial thoughts were positive on other sites. What do any Lex Cath people think.

I hope Coach Woolf does stay for the sake of the program. Otherwise, the new head coach will have an extremely difficult time dealing with the Woolf loyalists.
#4
Lex Cath is going to have to completely rebuild a staff

Engler will have a super talented big O line. I saw the lineman Friday and they have all grown and gained some pounds.

Being the offensive mind he is he should be very happy and able to run or pass. Engler can develop Brandt as a QB for this season while grooming O'hara to be the next QB of Ryle.

Congratulations to the new coach at Ryle. Mike Woolf will be a great asset to the football program. I hope he stays. If he decides to move on or the new coach should choose to move in another direction, the fan base / parents /etc should all think about their actions and if they are serving the best interest of the program or their own personal agenda before they say / post / act.

Support your coach. Even if you think he made a bad decision. The coach and the players deserve 100% support from their fans. Think Alabama - Auburn. Not the results the coach wanted on that last play, but he has the support of the program. Support the team, coaches, players, everyone.

I will help you get started. There will only be one game I root for your opponent (My son's team). The rest of your season, I will be a silent member of the Raider Nation.

Good luck Coach Engeler. Good luck Raiders.

Very well said NKY, best of luck to the Raiders

In my opinion it's a great hire. Offensive minded coach, who has ran a Nike elite QB camps, has coached Doss, Burke, Bolin and now Ryan... all played D1 football. His offense at Lex Cath are alway have been top 10 in the state as far as scoring and yardage. So give it time and he will make Ryle to a good program.

I'm really excited to see Boone and Ryle hire 2 quality coaches from outside the area to bring some new blood to NKY.

Grammar check. LOL! Lex Cath have always been top 10 in the state.

I agree the Ryle and Boone rivalry will soon be renewed not like the toilet bowls of the past 2 seasons.

I am told that Coach E is a QB specialist and am excited to see if he is able to help Brandt live up to his potential this season while grooming O'hara behind him to be a top NKY QB in 2016 & 2017

Official meeting has been moved to this afternoon!

Weather may affect this though.

One big question is if he will schedule Highlands?

I think he will and if he doesn't want to I think he will be pressured too.

My question is do the 2 year deals with Sycamore, Scott County and Shelby County stay intact with Warner gone?

I'd like to play Sycamore this year because they have a nice stadium and it's a conifidence boost if you can beat a Cincy teams. Scott & Shelby would come to us and I know those kids would love to pay Shelby back after the game last season.

Yes because the Ad's usually sign the contracts so I would think so

It's OFFICIALY OFFICIAL players met with Coach Engler today.

I must say I am excited to see his offense after Lex Cath produced 6000 yards of offense with him as OC last season.

He has a big experienced O-Line to build around. A star in Colin England is imagine at WR. Lex McGregor a fast tough RB. I could easily see immediate success with this team.

The remains question is QB.
Spring ball will be very interesting but judging by Engelrs list of former QBs I would expect Brandt to win the starting job over Rytlewski. Arm Strength being one of the biggest reasons.

I could possibly see him going with O'hara but I believe it's best for a O'hara to learn and not get thrown to the wolves as they say.

I am also Told Woolf would remain DC. Excellent move by Engeler assuming this is true. I would expect the Defense to return to the solid unit it was previous the past two season.

I must admit TNT, you are one optimistic dude.

Good luck to Coach Engler.

Why would he pressured to play Highlands?

Ryle High School went to Lexington to land the fourth head football coach in its 22-year history.

Ryle athletic director Jim Demler made it official Tuesday by announcing in a press release Lexington Catholic offensive coordinator Mike Engler as the new head coach, replacing Bryson Warner, who resigned on Dec. 2 after 11 seasons.

Engler had been an assistant at Lexington Catholic since 1991 and had been assistant head coach and offensive coordinator during his tenure. He helped lead the Knights to a Class 3A state title in 2005 and a Class 4A state title in 2007. Lexington Catholic posted a 218-68 record (.762 winning percentage) during Engler’s tenure.

“Mike has a tremendous football background and a great reputation across the state as an excellent coach,” Demler said. “He comes from a well-respected, tradition-rich program in Lexington Catholic and we feel like he is a great fit to lead our football team.”

Engler met with Ryle’s players on Tuesday.

“My family and I are very excited about the opportunity to become part of the Ryle community,” Engler said in the press release. “We will play an exciting, up-tempo brand of football. I believe the community will be pleased with what they will see in the Ryle football program. Ryle has a great group of kids who will have a chance to be successful both on and off of the field.”

Warner compiled a 73-58 record, and his 2006 team finished as state runner-up in Class 4A.

Good luck to Coach Engler.

After the past three seasons I am optimistic.
A lot of the pride that was in the community and the program has really slipped out.
The fact that a few parents basically caused a mutiny over the past two years proved this. Not saying I don't agree a change was needed, because it was.

Engeler WILL restore pride and a winning reputation that was being built up to the 2010 season. He will build a staff of character and proved this by keeping Woolf and I am told that most of the defensive staff will remain intact.

I'm excited. Engeler is a great QB coach which Ryle severely needs. But his offense is very exciting in general. Weapons like England, Arnwine and McGregor should have big numbers this season.

I must say I though Turner would drop the ball on this one but I am impressed with his choice. Woolf stays in the same spot and that also is a very wise choice.

I will attend the spring scrimmage for the first time in a few years to see how this works out.
#22
Was told today Engeler has expressed a want to play Highlands next season to renew the series.
#23
Staff is taking shape. I am told all Defensive coaches will remain and Harden will return to DBs.
Coach Ryan will remain O-Line Coach (excellent choice)
OC I am told will be part of Engeler's duties.
#24
I seriously doubt Brandt will be the next Qb. There are better win now options on the roster.
#25
He has the talent here to win now. This car just needs a buff and shine, little organization under the hood and its a pretty and fast sports car. I'd buy one, if I could afford one. LOL Guess I'll just keep the mini van and watch the show.

If it is not Brandt it will be O'hara, I could really see O'hara getting it because he will be a 3-year starter in The program which Engeler's history at Lex Cath would lead me to believe it.
