Red Devils are always sluggish in their opener but still win easily over a much improved Greenup County team.

Russell looses alot of players from last year due to grad but most went onto college. I think one of their LB's went to UK. But this year was last years soph and jrs who saw some snaps in the championship games. So yea lil sluggish but I see a dangerouse red devil team again this year.

The LB went to WV Tech. There was a guard that went to play at KCU but as far as i'm aware there weren't any that went to UK.

I think i'll take Russell by a TD. Don't call me crazy I just know we tend to start slow and get better. :devilflam

I think Russell has a great shot at a repeat in 2a. One of the best coached programs in 2a. GREAT COACH! I remember back in 02, They had Breathitt co. beat , Breathitt made that great 4th quarter come-back or Russell would have won it that year as well.
Wasn't one of Russell's losses thet year to Greenup co? I saw Greenup at a grid, Their solid as well. Greenup and Russell will be a good game, But I think Greenup has a shot to get them early in the season, Just like I think Russell has a shot to repeat in 2a.

Russell hasn't lost to Greenup since the 2000 season. That year they lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs to Lexington Catholic 21-20 in OT, who lost to Boyle County 18-16 in the regional championship that went on to win 2A that season.

Just looking at how close they were scorewise in 2000 and 2002 (28-27 loss to eventual 2A champ Breathitt Co) combined with their state championship last season, Russell may have been the most dominant team in 2A for the last 6 seasons or so alongside Belfry.
