She was away at school.

I'm extremely close to my parents, but I would go a couple of weeks without talking to them when I was away at school.

Sounds like they just overreacted.

Yeah, but surely they tried to contact her during the two weeks before reporting her missing.

Sounds to me that there may be more to this than just overreacting.
