Belfry will give their best! But sheesh. Are Ashland fans daring to think this could be the year they actually get past a Cov. Cath and compete with the Birds?
They are damn good. If they have a shot it's this year with that defense. Offensivly they are OK but their defense is great.
The 3 and outs were all Russell's. Ashland has good offensive stats but it's be ause the number of possessions they had. Ashland had to run at least 5x as many offensive plays. That's a recipe for disaster.

^ Demorilizing for the Russell boys to not be able to move the ball and constantly be on D too.
Everything really is pointing to Ashland having their best team in a long time. I know they lost a lot of good players, but I think maybe everyone underestimated just how big a deal it was for them to return SO MUCH on the LOS. Those guys seem pretty good.

Those guys up front are really good.
Their offense isn't as high powered as last years team but BadCat was right. Defensively they are better.

All this cov cath highlands talk is rediculous. We play the game we played tonight against those teams we don't win the game. 4 turnovers. And a senseless holding penalty to put us in a 3rd an 30 can't happen. But we keep getting better and momentum is building. Let's keep improving tomcats we are at the point in the season where your best game always needs to be your next one. If we keep getting better keep working and don't believe all the hype of we're good enough already to challenge highlands an keep striving we have a chance to be pretty good. But right now we aren't where we want to be or where we need to be. A lot to improve on even after a couple big wins so keep working cats

I was convinced after the Russell/Lawrence Co. Scrimmage that those 2 teams were about even at best. Kinda makes me wonder what all these other people saw in that scrimmage that made anyone think that Russell was going to be able to get this team going with Evans at Qb not a knock on lance he's just not built for Russell type offense. Especially a not up to par Russell offense.

What we saw last night is not what we had seen before. In that scrimmage in the first 10 play set Russell scored 3 times. In the down and distance part I think it was 2-1 for the varsity. Greenup is awful. Running clock in the 3rd quarter. Against Ironton they moved the ball well. Last night boiled down to Ashland's defensively line dominating. Russell couldn't block 74 or 76. No time to throw and could barely get a hand off.

If he hadn't have held that would have been turnover number 5. You gotta give Googie some credit on the two interceptions. Particularly the second one when he was battling cramps and Hart went right back at him with Malik on the fly.

Excellent advice. When we reach Fort Knox, we usually learn the reality that the yellow rock we are carrying is not gold.

The holding that wa called Elam was already around the corner am downfield. The russell defender was right in front of me. And yeah it was a legitimate hold but I dont think the defender had a shot at Elam regardless. Maybe we are talking about to different penalties but that one was very stupid. On the second one yeah the defender made a great play. But neither time was Malik open enough to throw the ball there. The first one was way underthrown as well. Even if that is the play call it is still on the qb to see that it isnt there and check down to someone else. That however is something that only comes with experience and I believe he will get better at reading defense

That isnt the holding call I was talking about. I was talking about the holding call on Baker on the punt return. Ball hit him on the back of the leg after he let it bounce and he basically tackled the defender to save the turnover.

Yeah that was a smart football play.

My EKY source told me today that a young man was seriously hurt in this game on the Ashland side. I hope she was wrong, but prayers do go out to the Ashland community and for this young man to get well soon.

Walters, their starting center, fractured his foot or ankle.
So I hear.

Drew Walters #63 senior starting center out for 6 weeks. Maybe back for a playoff game hopefully.

Hopefully six weeks is a worse case scenario. I've seen kids heal faster than expected. I dont know how. Bad the break was or which bone it was. But hopefully he can return in the six weeks if not sooner.
