The body of a teenager who apparently jumped into 50-degree water on a dare was found by rescue workers in a Kings Mountain-area pond Friday.
Michael Rodgers, 16, was fishing with a friend in the pond, located off High Ridge Road in Casey County, when another neighbor challenged him to swim. He attempted to brave the 48-50 degree water, but officials believe he fell victim to hypothermia.
One neighbor jumped in to try to pull Rodgers out of the water, but was unsuccessful. The teen's body was finally located by a diver around three hours after he first went in the water.
The body was sent to Frankfort for an autopsy that is expected to be complete Saturday.
Wildlife officials say it's always important to test outside water temperature before you try to swim in it.
