OWENSBORO, Ky. – Morgan Meyer went 3 for 4 and scored two runs and Haley Twyman pitched six innings of solid relief as the Mercy Academy softball team beat Boyle County 8-0 on Saturday in the Rawlings/KHSAA State Tournament at Jack C. Fisher Park.

Mercy (36-8), ranked No. 4 in the state, advanced to the state championship game set for 2 p.m. EDT against the winner of the losers’ bracket final between No. 17 Lone Oak (39-5) and unranked Boyle County (33-12).

The Lone Oak-Boyle County winner would have to beat Mercy twice to deny the Jaguars their first state title in fast-pitch softball.

Mercy scored four runs in the first inning to take control against Boyle County, with Jordan Vorbrink (RBI single), Erika Downey (RBI single) and Aubrey Meiners (two-run single) knocking in runs.

Mercy took a 6-0 lead in the top of the second, and Twyman took over pitching duties from starter J.J. Francis in the bottom half. Twyman allowed just two hits and struck out nine.

Vorbrink, Francis and Meiners each added two hits as the Jaguars finished with 12.
