Whitley County 55 Corbin 31

You are right about the resturants though. Harlan doesn't have a large selection of places to eat. Also,it might be a high school gym but it is a great one and deffinately worthy of a regional tournament. Personally, I have no problem going to Corbin most years to watch the tournament. The arena there is a good atmosphere for it and most teams in the region don't have the facilities to hold the tournament so it works out well. But HC does have the facilities and it will be nice to have it here some years. You have to admit that for Corbin it will be like having home field advantage in the regionals every year. Even Whitley,Williamsburg and S.Laurel will have the biggest fan bases because of their proximity to the arena. It would kind of be like holding the 50th district tournament at Corbin every year. I don't think the other schools would like that very much. I think that once you see the gym at HC you will see what we mean and if you like the gym just wait till your team plays a football game at the new field at HC. I will have to say that they have spared no expense in either facility or the entire school for that matter. You will be impressed. Most small colleges don't have it like HC does.

They would want to because it is a great place to play a tournament. The atmosphere inside that gym under tournament conditions will be electric. I think the one thing that HC's gym would have over the arena is the floor level seating. You are right on top of the action. You will not truly appreciate this gym until you see it for yourself.

Did you know that the Arena was actually painted in blue so that when it held region tournaments and other tourneys throughout the year that it would make it look even less like Corbin has homefield advantage?
Call me crazy but id go with a place and be okay with it when there going to the extreme to make it as much as a non-home like game for Corbin.

If fans really want to watch the game theyll travel anyways.
Just about every school will take buses for kids that want to go as well who cant make the trip.

Im not saying HC isnt nice as ive said several times. I believe everything you have to say about there gym. There are a lot of GREAT atmospheres and gyms in the 13th region to watch a game at. Point is, why not have it a neutral court every single year because the small schools will never have home court advantage period because there gyms cant hold it. Take Lynn Camp for example, could you imagine having any kind of tournament there? You can fit maybe 300 people in there comfortably, but its not fair to schools like that to go to a bigger school when the option of playing at a neutral court every ingle year is an option.

I'm really kind of torn on this issue for many reasons. First of all, I have to admit that I do sincerely miss the Regional Tournament being at school sites. I just enjoyed getting to know the people who put on the tournament and the terrible parking just kind of made it all seem kind of fun to me. It was sort of the celebration of that particular community for one week out of the year and I loved it.

I was a huge critic of ever having the Regional Tournament at The Arena just because I missed the school sites so much. However, The Arena staff has been so kind and courteous, and I honestly think that it's a very nice venue. It has nice places to eat (Applebee's, Dino's, and The Depot) in relative proximity to The Arena and I realize it may be the more modern choice and to be honest, I have liked it even though I thought it would be horrendous.

Therefore, I have reached the conclusion (because I still love the school sites) that I think it should alternate each year between The Arena (which I like) and the school sites (which I like).

For example, I think in 2012, it should be at The Arena. In 2013, at Harlan County. 2014, back at The Arena. 2015, it would switch to the 49th District which would be Clay Co. (since North Laurel hosted at The Arena in 2010). 2016 at The Arena and 2017 at South Laurel (since Whitley hosted in 2011 at The Arena and Corbin hosted in 2008).

Does anyone else like this idea or is this just another one of my hair-brained, crazy thoughts?

I like this idea but i'm sure that those that live up close to the arena won't. You can't blame them though and i'm sure that the people at the arena in Corbin have done thing's to make the arena less like one team's home court but the fact is that there are a lot of people in the more rural areas that won't make the drive to Corbin to watch the game but would go if it were held nearer to their home. So I would like for each district in the region to have a site to play a region tournament in and alternate between districts instead of individual teams and let each team in each district decide where their district wants to hold their region tournament. When it's their turn to host.
