Stardust Wrote:Who believes this is recruiting and who has issue with it? Serious question.
My opinion it is recruiting. It just seems very odd 2 kids from Canada end up on top of a hill in Eastern KY.
Do i have an issue with it? Well i'm kinda on the fence on that one. The only problem i have is with the local kid who has played his whole life at the feeder school & his dream was to play for the high school. When he gets there & puts in the hard work & time only to have it taken away from him by (IMO) a recruit. Then i fill bad for the kid as most will never play beyond high school & there playing time is diminished because of a 6'5" or 6'7" kid from another state, county, or country.
I know you should just work harder to try & earn that spot back, but come on some are just not gifted with the size of most of these (IMO) recruits. These kids are recruited for a reason. The reason is there better than the players you have or you wouldnt be recruiting them to start with.
I say the coaches should work harder with the talent they have to improve them. If they dont have the size, speed, etc. to compete with team a or b then work on different offensive or defensive sets to accomadate what you do have.
If kids transfer for legitamate reasons (parents divorce, parents job, etc) then i have no problem. If the kid tranfers because a school is recruiting him then yes i have a problem.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Oh come on. Phelps is NOT one of the worst teams in the state. They are not a bad team at all as a matter of fact. Now should ER have lost to them? Probably not, especially after being up 16 at the half in a game that was won by scoring less than 60 points. Wasn't there but ER must have had a terrible 2nd half. I've been to one game, the Prestonsburg loss, and Coach Lemaster does look a little overwhelmed at times. It's his first year as a head coach and he's learning. He was probably thrown into the fire a litle sooner than he was ready for. They are a talented team for about 7-8 deep then drop off from there. They have lost some games they should've won but have also played well at times. They gave a very good Oldham County team all they wanted. They beat a good Letcher Central team. They've played up and down which is a sign of inexperience both on the floor and on the bench. Both should get better as the season progresses. Hopefully Coach Lemaster has control over his team. If he does, they will get better, as will he. It's December. There is still a long way to go. Discipline is the key. If its there, the Warriors will be a force to be reconned with in March. If not, they'll go home early. Focus Warriors. Learn from your mistakes. Talent will only take you so far. Guts, determination, discipline and teamwork will take you to Rupp.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I told you that if you had anything further to say, say it to someone's face. If you were any part of a man, you would have done it already instead of posting things on a computer.

I promise I'm not trying to start anything but if ran into these kids and ask where they were from what would they say? Nothing personal. Just a question.

Whooaaa Mr. Sensitive. I rarely post anything on here and have never said anything about those two kids. I was simply stating a fact. And that it was.

Maybe I am a little sensitive, sorry. With that being said, people on here have been pretty abusive to 2 kids. That makes me mad. Say what you want about an adult or a team, but when you start saying things about individual kids, it upsets me. I never do that, unless its a positive comment.

Lets get things back on track here. There should be no threatening, outrageous insulting, deeming those kids.

Hay now no name calling . And it's you gutless peeps that are cowards . You couldn't win nothing on your own so you take the offer of two Canadians needing a place to play . What would your record be without these two . They are the team . So i'm saying it to your face RECRUITERS . Had to go somewhere where they didn't know about you to get players or these two fine young men would have never come to the Ridge . Boys your stock is droping staying there . I got some advice ," go to a school that will showcase you fine talent , Leave ."

I agree with that. No reason for personal attacks on the kids. I just think it's ridiculous that ER and the Pike County BOE would let this stuff go on in the first place. Maybe the football coach up there should try to do the same thing though. Hint hint coach Allen! Haha

Not to put you down, but kids have been coming to schools in this region for over 50 years!! I guess this is what I struggle with most. I have listened to people on here talk about this when I and everyone else knows they have enticed kids to come to their school, they then turn around and act like E.R. is a basketball factory. When I call these people on their B.S. their response is " We can't help it if they want to play for a good team" Lets get real here! Don't throw stones at your own glass house.
12-29-2011, 06:10 PM
I was asked about this in a PM, and this is the response that I gave. For all those who think recruiting is cheating, well the old saying about "Glass Houses" should be considered.
Technically, the coach nor the school cannot do anything to influence any individual student to come to their school, meaning no 1-on-1. That is the recruiting rule. However, recruiting is allowed. Meaning, advertising the benefits of your school for the purposes of drawing in new students is completely allowable and is done by every school in the commonwealth. If you have a Private school in your district, I'm confident that your public school has some type of marketing program to get students to their school. Students and parents can come to the school and interview teachers, principals and coaches if requested for the purposes of making a decision to come to that school. As for out of state or country students, it certainly can be an outside source that directs students to a particular school. We have a former graduate he is an executive for a major law firm in Germany. He directs exchange students to our school every year, and the students go to the school he recommends in Germany. Though none of the students that have came to our school has benefited any of the athletic programs, there is no doubt that these students have helped increase our overall test scores. These students have been borderline genius's, thus, them helping our test scores (though incremental due to the schools total student body), these students have helped get more state funding for us due to our higher test scores. So, I guess that could be construed the same as bringing in a 6-9' basketball player to help increase other scores
Trust me, I get it. But, the reality is that schools recruit. I, as an assistant on the varsity baseball team have an obligation to make my school attractive for potential students. We conduct summer camps, and instructional seminars for little league players and coaches, all for the purpose of trying to get them to drink the kool-aid, and become future students at our school. We don't call kids or their parents, but we advertise the heck out of our school. Right now, posted all over Alexandria, we have 100's of signs posted stating that our school is in the top 10% of standardized testing. Yes, we even have a sign less than 100 feet of the Private school in Alexandria!
If you think about it, I'm sure you will think of some things that your school has done to make it more appealing to come there, rather than another school????? Bottom-line, you market your school for the sole purposes of recruiting students to your hallways!

I understand your disagreement with East Ridge recruiting and I don't have a problem with you questioning it. However, I have a serious problem with taking shots at the rest of the Warriors. Those young men have worked very hard to reach this point and there is some real talent there. I understand that they don't get to play a lot, so there is no way anyone would know. But, East Ridge is bigger than two players and there is absolutely no reason for you to bash the young men who had nothing to do with the recruiting.

What do you mean, say it to your face and not the computer screen? Are you planning to give out your name and number? Your username does not ID you! I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish by calling out others. Did I miss where you gave others the ability to call you up first hand?

^ Nope, I didn't see a name and number for those you are attacking to contact you directly either. If it's not School Admin, who do you want them to approach face to face? I agree with your arguments, but you calling people cowards seems a little extreme when you have given them no ability to come directly to you. Who are you? Or, do you want to stay obscure to? Just asking????

Look at SV a few years back even win the state . Look at Pburg , phelps , Bl , SC , JC , Paintsville SF , LCC or any hill school that has hillbillys only on their team . But for these 2 fine players to come / choose East Ridge out of ever big school , Private school or Academy . There had to be an offer on the table . And all I'm saying is if this coach is a true coach let him try to win with the team he has been given . All I see , read or whatever about the Ridge Warriors is the 2 Canadian boys . Tell the coach to build up our hillbilly players . Get them a scholarship , work on their talents . Prove that he's a coach win with what he's given . But to bring a D1 future player to a team that may not even have a NAIA player on it . He could hurt the 2 new boys by losing it makes their stock drop , He hurts the existing team ,it causes people to come just to watch the new boys, And he makes it look like the community doesn't have the talent good enough for him to coach . I don't mean to dog the team nor the new kids I hope they get what they want . But I am for the hillbillys
