Boyd County came out into this game on fire, bursting out to an early 20-9 lead, but Ashland used two three pointers to spark a 13-2 run to get them right back into the game. Ashland never took the lead, but they managed to keep the game close. The score was tied going into halftime. In the second half Boyd County just flat out took over the game. #34 for Boyd dominated the paint in the second half and the kittens had a hard time containing her. Boyd started the second half on a 15-4 run and never looked back as they cruised in the second half to the 65-45 victory. Congrats to Boyd County on the victory, it was well earned. Good luck to the lions the rest of the way.

The Kittens lose three seniors from this year's team. Heather Akers, Heather Bocook, and Stephanie Dewitt made great contributions to this young team and they were great leaders. Thank you girls for the hard work you all put into helping this team, and good luck to you all as you move on.

Nice game for the Lady Lions. Cheney really stepped up and made some big threes. I thought that Ashland's gameplan was a good one with doubling down on Badget in the first half. I believe that Badget only had 1 basket and 1 rebound in the first half. Historically Boyd has not shot well from the 3 this season (I think about 20% as a team). In their prior 2 games Boyd was about 8 for 50 from the 3. But big players step up in big games. Cheney proved to be a big player.

I thought that that smaller Kittens played their hearts out as shown by their winning the battle of the boards (29 to 27). I was also impressed that 3 Kittens dove on the floor for a loose ball with only 5 seconds to play even thought the game was obviously out of reach. To mount a 2nd half comeback the Kittens had to go man-to-man. This allowed Badget to free herself in the paint. I don't think that the 20 point margin is indicative of how hard the Kittens played.

But, all the credit must go to the Lady Lions. They played extremely well -- Good luck in regionals....
