Campbell County 27, Ryle 20
The Camels came back from 13 down on a late 16-yard touchdown run by senior James Popp.The Camels then stopped the Raiders inside their own 20 in the final seconds.

Campbell County beat Ryle 27-20 Oct. 14, 2011 at Ryle High School in Union.
Campbell beat Ryle for the first time in 10 years and won its first district championship in 31 years. Campbell scored on its first four possessions of the second half after trailing 13-0 at halftime. The Camels had turned it over three times in the first half and came up empty in three possessions inside the Ryle 20-yard line. Quarterback Tyler Durham rushed for 267 yards and three touchdowns, most of the yardage coming in the second half. Durham, who carried the ball a punishing 46 times against Ryle, has 500 yards on the ground in two weeks. He also completed 7-of-14 passes for 119 yards to

Holy Cross 69, Brossart 13
Bishop Brossart junior running back Jacob Elbert led all rushers with 115 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown. Brossart trailed 48-0 at halftime as it could not match HC’s high-powered offense.
Spencer Hackworth also scored for Brossart.
Next up: Brossart hosts Walton-Verona 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at Scott High School.

NewCath 56, Newport 14
NCC scored 42 unanswered points starting late in the second quarter and the Thoroughbreds cruised past their neighborhood-rival Wildcats.
It was the 12th straight win for NewCath (8-0, 3-0 Class 2A) in the Battle for the Firemen’s Bell, also know as the Newport City Championship.
NewCath outgained Newport 541-223, led by Brady Hightchew’s 203 yards on 12-of-21 passing and 153 yards on 14 carries. Nick Woltermann, named NewCath’s player of the game, had eight catches for 181 yards and three total touchdowns.
Hightchew threw for two scores. Dylan Hayes had three rushing touchdowns and Mason Myers one. Garrett Frey had a TD reception.
Josh Cain had two interceptions for NewCath. Pete Collopy and Evan Morse recovered fumbles. Logan Martin had 13 tackles.
Newport scored twice in the second quarter. JaShawn Short threw a 79-yard touchdown pass to Daylin Garland, and Garland scored a rushing TD.
Short was 13-of-21 for 202 yards in the air, with Garland catching four passes for 114 yards. Robert Washington had five grabs for 80 yards.
Bradley Messer recovered a fumble for Newport and David Franco led the Wildcats with 11 tackles.
Next up: Both teams return to Newport Stadium to close out the 2A district schedule. Newport hosts Lloyd 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21. NCC hosts Holy Cross 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.

Bellevue 40, Ludlow 0
Bellevue rushed for 421 yards in routing its district rival Panthers. The Bellevue defense allowed Ludlow just 102 yards.
The Tigers achieved the rare feat of having three rushers reach triple digits in the stat book. Justin Hatch rushed 15 times for 138 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Ackerson rushed six times for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Fogelman rushed 28 times for 113 yards and a score.
Bellevue forced four turnovers. Tyler Howe recovered two fumbles, and Ackerson and Brock one apiece.
Jordan Ackerson led the Tigers in tackles with seven.
Next up: Bellevue plays at Dayton 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.

Highlands 77, Holmes 0
The beatdowns roll on as the Bluebirds routed their 4A district rival to clinch the district championship. Highlands posted its third shutout in a row and has scored 68 or more points in each of those games.
Highlands amassed 396 yards in the first half as Towles, the University of Kentucky recruit, finished 14-of-15 passing for 361 yards and five touchdowns, three to Jac Collinsworth for 20, 50 and 17 yards. Receiver Austin Sheehan had three catches for 131 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown on the game’s first play from scrimmage. Sheehan also had a 35-yard punt return for a score.
Highlands had 560 yards for the game and allowed 188.
Ryan Donovan scored three second-half TDs, two receiving for the Bluebirds, and had 103 total yards. Ian McGurn had two catches for 76 yards and a score. Colin Seidl had 45 rushing yards and a TD.
Backup QB Drew Houliston was 6-of-8 passing for 93 yards and two TDs.
Josh Quillen and Blake Schutte had key interceptions. Alex Frost returned a fumble 24 yards for a score. Jake Meyer and Brendan Houston had fumble recoveries as well.

Beechwood 63, Dayton 0
The Greendevils only mustered one first down on offense during their trip to Fort Mitchell. Beechwood had 394 yards offense, 277 on the ground.
