Jamal Mashburn.

Just kidding.

There's been several applications turned in but I don't know all the names. I'm not sure Honeycutt has applied but I heard his name mentioned as a possibility. Also an applicant from Oklahoma. Also maybe a couple of local guys may be interested.

Regardless who they hire I hope it is someone who is willing to put in the time and effort and stay around for the long haul. Owsley had 3 coaches between 1978 to 2001---Charlie Turner ('78-'89), Larry Sparks ('89-'95), and Tim Bobrowski ('95-'01). All were successful--Turner 4 district championships, 5 trips to the region, advanced to the semi's 4 times and was region runner-up twice. Sparks won 2 district titles with 3 trips to the region, semis twice, won 1990 All A Region and was runner-up in the All A State Tournament to UHA in '90. Bobrowski won 3 districts and made it to the semi's every year, plus won 3 straight All A regions between 1999-2001, and made it to the All A state semi's in 2000.
The one constant that made Owsley competitive in all those years was they had few coaching changes, they had consistency. It's hard to build a program with coaching changes every couple of years. Hopefully the new hire will stay and build Owsley into the competitive program once again.
