Jeff Morrow steps down as basketball coach at Jeffersontown
#1
Jeff Morrow, who led the Jeffersontown High School boys' basketball team to the 2006 state championship, announced his resignation Friday.

"I just think it's time to step back and figure out what direction I want to go," the 40-year-old Morrow said. "I've thought about going into athletic administration ... but I came to the conclusion that the only way I'm going to figure out what I want to do for the next 16 years is to step away from it."

Morrow has been a head coach in Louisville for 16 years -- two at Highview Baptist (now Whitefield Academy), two at Ballard and the past 12 at J'town.

He posted losing records in three of his first four seasons at J'town before developing the program into a state power. Along with winning the 2006 state title, J'town posted at least 21 victories in each of the past eight seasons and reached the Seventh Region championship game in six of the past seven.

Morrow went 250-118 at J'town and won a pair of regional titles, the other coming in 2008.

"Without question (the state title) is at the top of the list," Morrow said. "With high school basketball in this state, that's everything to play for all the marbles."

Morrow said he wasn't sure if and when he might coach again. He plans to stay on as a history teacher at J'town during the 2011-12 school year.

"By that time hopefully I will have figured out which path I want to spend the second half of my career on," he said.

J'town principal Marty Pollio said the school will immediately begin accepting applications for Morrow's replacement.

"Coach Morrow has had a huge impact on Jeffersontown High School and the basketball program here," Pollio said. "We're always going to remember him for some of the best years in the history of our program. We support him in his desire to seek new challenges."
