How big is the McDaniel kid right now as an 8th grader? If he finished third in the state golf championship this year as an 8th grader how much time will he devote to basketball?

Mountain Wrote:I agree with zone buster on this one. I believe you should put that blame on Coach Spurlock. Jones had two good teams at Clay and the others I would consider average. He has won at every school he has coached. I believe when he was at Cawood also they was one of the best teams in the region every year, but could not beat the Tigers and Coach Keith. During that time how many teams could beat Clay in the region or state (not very many). Good Luck to Coach Spurlock and Coach Jones in this game. They have both done great jobs this year with their teams.
 Spurlock is at SC...He did enough damage at Clay...

Spurlock helped the program in my opinion. He put a lot of effort into the younger kids, something that Jones did not do, and it really hurt him. Jones' '01 team couldn't have lost if it tried, and trust me it struggled to get there. Jones' last year when region was at Cawood and they lost to Corbin was the huge dissapointment. That game should have never been close. The year he lost to Knox Central at Middlesboro was awful too. That team was top 15 in the state all year.

I think clay has a much better chance winning the region now

Hit and Run has suddenly turned this thread into he does not like Coach Jones thread. Lets focus on the game please SIR. Get over it man, he is at Harlan Co. and Clay has not been to Rupp in 10 years. Corbin is the new big dog in this region until some teams knocks them off. Give the coaches a break big guy and support Coach Marcum and your program. One more point how can you say Coach Marcum is not terrific, he has only been coaching 1 year and his assistants are?

The 01 team was nowhere near as talented as Bell and probably not Cawood either. That team wasn't supposed to win. Jones had Clay in the mix EVERY year he was there.

That's where you are wrong sir. Mike and Robert are both stand up men. You'd be hard pressed to fine 2 better men, but I was just pointing put the obvious. Mike underachieved in the tournament while he was at Clay and didnt put any effort into the younger kids. Robert on the other hand was smart when it came to hiring his coaches. He knew he wasnt the most knowledgable. That's why he got the 3 assistants that he did. I've said this before, and I'll say it again. A head coach is only as good as his assistants. Coaching is like playing. One man can't do it all, it takes a full unit working together to be successful, and rob has done a tremendous job getting that group together. I've talked to some players that say the assistants do most of the practices and gameplanning, which is fine. There is no problem with that. I've not knocked Robert, I've commended him for getting the staff together that he has. That's a huge part of coaching. With that said it's time for the 10 year dry spell to end. GO TIGERS!!

They are both extremely good golfers. The oldest (Todd) is signed to play at UK next year. The youngest (Tyler/the basketball player) finished 3rd at the state tournament as an 8th grader.
