Strikeout King Wrote:according to KHSAA Derrick Thomas is the New Head Coach at Dunbar

He is a counselor at the school. No head coaching experience except middle school. Lawson resigned on a Thursday and they hired this guy on Monday. They don't care about football at PLD!:lmao:

While that may be true, from what I am hearing, this guy is hired for this season only as an interim. It is very late in the game to try and go through the process of hiring someone. Maybe they felt this would be the best thing for the program.

Nothing "they" have done has been in the best interest of the program. Dunbar should be the best football program in Lexington, instead, it is the worst.

Derrick thomas was an all american at UK years ago, he was very close to playing in the NFL, but injury prevented that. He coached at Dunbar a couple years ago as an assistant under David Hensley. Everytime the Dunbar job has opened up he has put in for it. Coming from a dunbar player, he is who the kids have been wanting to play for.

:notworthy Exactly what this thread was about to start with!
Mark Peach, who led Dunbar to regional and semi-state success, developed a beneficial concept to the Dunbar program with the in-house summer camp system. For one week the student athletes lived in the gym together bonding over hot practices, shared meals and down-time filled with video games, late night movies, and loud music.

Traditions like this can be lost in a program when the turnover rate becomes out of control and can deeply impact the success of a team.
