Paintsville 64 Shelby Valley 57 -- 15th Region All "A" Championship
#1
Congrats to Paintsville on winning the 15th Region All "A" Classic!
#2
Shelby Valley was up 31-21 at the half. Good comeback by PHS.

The refs. My God something has to be done about the subpar officiating. In the first half PHS got the shaft and in the 2nd half Valley got the shaft.

Paintsville:
L.Carroll 13 pts, 5 reb
K.Carroll 27 pts, 9-15 FG, 4 reb, 2 assists
Jarrell 11 pts, 4-5 FG, 10 reb
Russell 9 pts, 9 reb
Adams 4 pts, 2 assists

Valley:
Fleming 22 pts
Roberts 16 pts

Both teams had 12 turnovers.

Paintsville shot 21-43 Fg for 49%
Paintsville was 14-24 FG in the 2nd half for 58%.

Congrats to Paintsville, Looks like Kendra Carrol had a great game
#4
I must be psychic, I picked PHS by 7.
#5
Roger Fairchild, Sammy whatever his name is, and the lady, SUCK... Like Sportwhiz said, Paintsville got the shaft in the first half, Valley got it in the second half...
#6
i agree..congrats to phs but the refs should be ashamed...i think for the high school and middle school tournaments they need to get (good) refs from down state that dont no anyone from here. i heard that sally roberts had a chance to win the game for valley and they called a a stupid call a charge when it should have been a blocking foul.
and as for the big girl in side heard she was supposed to be the best in the region well congrats to who ever shut her down cause she didnt look like top 5 in the region material.

I couldn't agree more with your comment about the officiating. They all but took the Paintsville girls out of the game psychologically. Thank goodness our girls were mentally prepared to come out and battle for something that has been a LONG TIME COMING! A 15TH REGION CLASS "A" CHAMPIONSHIP!

Parents stood with tears in their eyes while applauding the efforts of a gutty bunch of young ladies... the line of cars with blinking lights being met @ the county line by Johnson County Sheriff's department cruisers and then Paintsville City Police cruisers @ the city limits to escort the team, pep, and cheer buses all stand out in my mind as moments these people will carry with them forever. What a wonderful bunch of hard working young student-athletes with parents, who have supported & defended them thru every condition. I appreciate this win for many reasons (1) for all the Comets (2) for all the great young Lady Tigers before this group who paved the way & established the program (3) for recruiting purposes... no wait... I didn't mean to say that! Anyway, Give it all you got Lady Tigers, C'ya in McBrayer, and everyone looks good in BLUE!!! Oh oh... Thank you to the Betsy Layne folks for putting on a great tournament and being so kind to everyone!

If any of the calls made tonight were good, then the charge was. Jarrell stood in the same spot when the girl started to drive the lane and the girl jumped on to her, it was a good call.

As for the "big girl inside" who was supposed to be the best in the region and her getting shut down, trust it wasn't just ONE girl who gaurded her. Every time she got the ball there were FOUR Shelby Valley players surrounding her, and she STILL had a DOUBLE-DOUBLE...

Mabey thats good stratagy PCyouknow...stoping there best player...lol...

...I also agree sportswiz...it isn't just the 15th...Mountain officiating is so touchie....two players jerzees can't touch without a foul...there are plenty of great situations where a "no call" would be appropriat (spelling?) but it's a foul....calm down, and let them play. I also noticed, that when Mountain officials go down state there not as pickie...wonder why?

As much as Jarrell is talked about, she did not impress me whatsoever. However, K. Carroll really is everything she is said to be. I really noticed the excellent attitude she has to go along with her talent, and that means a lot.

As far as the call goes when Sally Roberts had a chance to tie the ball game, IMO it was a blocking foul. They called 2 blocking fouls when Jarrell done the same exact move in the first half, but then when it came down to crunch time, the refs called it the other way. Jarrell went down and sunk two free throws which stretched out the lead by Paintsville by 5 points. Now, I thought first of all, that you don't get to shoot free throws on an offensive foul. I also thought this call was inconsistent with what they had been calling last night. This was also Sally's 5th foul.

Shelby Valley had 3 girls to foul out and several with 3 to 4 fouls.

But congratulations to the Lady Tigers on the win. They really battled back and closed the 10 point gap between them and Valley as soon as they came out on the floor the second half.

Good luck to both teams for the rest of the season.

I'm just proud that Valley made it as far as they did, they have improved so much from last year, where they didn't even advance to the second round.

I believe this is the ****hest Valley has ever made it in the All "A" tournament, so congrats to them too.

PHS played a awesome game last night.
#13
Okay nice to see someone from Paintsville admit that they recruit!

Hats off to the Lady Tigers, biggest win the Lady Tigers EVER!

Coach Baldwin I am happy for you man.

Now for the refs, that was a great called game. I was there and did not care who won, therefore i was totally objective. Again great job to the refs.

I have been down state and watched tons of bball, and the 15th had some of the best officials in the state. the problem is that the qualitly of play in the mountains is not as a high the rest of the state..it's the players and coaches that need the most improvement
#14
Are you a ref, because you kind of sound like one, lol.
#15
i wasent there or nothing but why is paintsville fans complaining? They won, and it sounds like Valley got the *SHAFT* In the 2nd half. So here we go again with the Complaining of the refs.
#16
Good Win Girls. Lets keep it up.
#17
Go Tigers.
#18
Can't wait to go to Richmond!! Smile

Great game last night. Congrats to PHS. Valley needed that game just to get that type of experience in that type of atmosphere. SV didn't make free throws, and they had a few stupid fouls. As for the Jarrell girl she is the best post player in the region, but Cindy Varney shut her down and Valley never put three and four girls on her.

As for the Carrol girl (35), she is legit, and last night she showed that she might be the best player in the region . I have never seen a girl with perfect fundmentals and a true jump shot. She plays like a man. I couldn't believe how fast she was. Sally Roberts is one of the fastest girls in the state and she had trouble keeping up with her.

The refs were not consistant but I thought they did a ok job. I do know in the second half SV shot four foul shots and Paintsville shot 24. But you can not blame the refs for this one. SV had every chance to win this one.

Overall just a great championship game.

Valley girls need to keep their head up because the real show is at the end with the best teams.

Valley played a great game i can honestly say i think valley really wanted it MORE!!!....bad calls was part og it...at one time the fouls was 9-0 , phs was in double bonus with 2:00 minutes still left in the game......Ths was great practive for valley they'll come out a better team than they already are because of it!!!....godd luck Valley!

Congrats PHS!

Jarrell never shot free throws on the charge call, you must have been in lala land or something. As for the charge being called a block in the first half, maybe because it was a block in the first half. In the first half Jarrell wasn't in position to take a charge, she was moving while trying to take one. The call at the end of the game was a charge, Jarrell NEVER moved from the time the girl started her drive at the top of the key. And I don't recall THREE girls from Valley fouling out, I think you may be exaggerating a lil bit.

congrats to paintsville

If you can HONESTLY say that Valley NEVER doubled down, and even tripled down on her then you are crazy, that is why Jarrell was held scoreless in the first half. What happened in the second half, they quit doubling and triple her and she netted double figures, get real snoop, lol.

I think she shot foul shots because they was in the bonus, most times charge or block call can go either way.First half she was moving for the block, the first charge call in second half the player was in the air, when jarrell moved under and they called it a charge, second charge call looked to be moving over in front of roberts.could have went either way JMO

Perkins,Stanley,Roberts all fouled out just under 4 mins left in the game.

I agree that by doubling down on her, keep her scoreless and the aggressive man to man valley played gave them a 10 pt lead at the half.
I feel why Valley lost this lead and the game was not playing a man to man defense till last 2:00 mins of the second half. Why quit playing a defense that gave you the halftime lead and possibly the "W"??

Congrats to PHS on a good deserving victory!

Also congrats to Valley girls for showing heart and determanation and not giving up.
#27
I would say they might of been trying to slow down Carroll.
#28
Jarrell didn't hurt SV, it was the role players that did. Valley got the ball out of Carrol's hands and then the role players for PHS stepped up.

Okay HomeGrown, please tell me who on this Lady Tiger team was recruited to play for them. As a matter of fact, please tell me about ANY athlete at Paintsville high school who was recruited.

I have been down state and watched tons of bball, and the 15th had some of the best officials in the state.

The game was POORLY officiated, on both sides. And the 15th DID have some great officials, Dale Conn being the BEST, they just don't make em like Dale anymore. There are some refs in the 15th region who SHOULDN'T be allowed to ref in the 15th due to being alumni of a 15th region school, or a faculty member of a 15th region school, that's a crock.
#30
Varney done a great job manning up against Jarrell.

K. Carroll is who really hurt SV.
When Valley went to a zone defense, Carroll had her way with them.
