Motivational words of wisdom.....
#1
For the PIRATES!!!!

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that's first place…It is and always has been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win.
Every time a football player goes to play his trade he's got to play from the ground up-from the soles of his feet right up to his head. Every inch of him has to play. Some guys play with their heads. That's O.K. You've got to be smart to be number one in any business. But more importantly, you've got to play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. If you're lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he's never going to come off the field second…

It is a reality of life that men are competitive and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. That's why they are there-to compete. To know the rules and objectives when they get in the game. The object is to win fairly, squarely, by the rules-but to win.

And in truth, I've never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn't appreciate the grind, the discipline. There is something in good men that really yearns for discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat.

I don't say these things because I believe in the "brute" nature of man or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

Hopefully their coach would give them that instead of having to get on here and read it on a message board. However, I agree, one of the best speeches I've found by one of the best of all-time...Vince Lombardi.

LAWRENCE COUNTY BULLDOGS
Every year a professional football team wins the Super Bowl. Every year a college football team wins the NCAA title. Every year the best high school team wins the state crown. All these teams have one thing in common. No matter how tough it gets throughout the season, they all do one thing - "HOLD THE ROPE!"
What is "holding the rope?"- Imagine that you're hanging from the edge of a 20 thousand-foot cliff and the only thing between you and a fall to your death is a rope, with the person of your choice on the other end. Who do you know that has the guts to pull you to safety? Who would "hold the rope?" Who is going to let that rope burn in their hands and not let go? How many people do you know that are going to withstand the burning pain and watch the blood drip from their hands for you?
If you can name two people, that's not good enough, because those two people might not be around. The next time our team is together, look around and ask yourself, who can I trust to "hold the rope?" Who is going to let their hands bleed for me? When you can look at every member of our team and say to yourself that they would all "hold the rope", our team is destined to win a lot of ball games. You see, the team that "holds the rope" when the going gets tough are winners! When you are down by four points with thirty seconds to go, don't give up. Yell at your teammates to "hold the rope." Let it burn but don't let go.
Every year there are winners and losers in all sports. Every year the winners "hold the rope." You don't have to be the best team on the field to the win the game. If you play with poise and enthusiasm, do what your coaches ask you, and most of all "hold the rope", you will be successful. No matter what grade you are in, in order to win, you have to make a commitment to your team. If you are supposed to hustle and pay attention in practice, do it. If you have to lift weights four times a week, don't miss. Once you start letting up at practices or start missing your workouts, you've killed the team because you didn't "hold the rope." Make the right choices for yourself and your TEAMMATES.
DON’T LET YOUR TEAM DOWN!
BE PART OF THE PRIDE!
HOLD THE ROPE!
