Where do you stand politically?
#1
Maybe we can get this stickied so that those who participate on this board can post their beliefs, if they desire to do so on any political issues they feel. That way we can get an idea where everyone is coming from, and where they stand in our continued political discussions.

I find it frustrating with all the side taking. It seems like anymore if someone doesn't agree on certain topics then its almost as if you must oppose everything they favor.

I openly acknowledge I agree with things on both sides, even from the far right and far left. And on a lot of issues I am somewhere in the middle, or unable to decide because of a knowledge deficit of that particular issue.

I am extremely socialist when it comes to education, but I am also extremely conservative when it comes to defense. Im a little left on health care, in that I feel no person should go without proper health care in this country. No one should be denied life saving treatment.

I am very conservative when it comes to securing the borders and illegal immigration. I am for deportation of all illegals caught in this country.

I oppose acts such as Title IX, Affirmative Action, but I support things such as equal wages for women and minorities.

I am a libertarian who believes that socialism is the single largest threat to individual liberty in this country.

I favor the smallest practicable federal government and strongly believe that government services should be delivered at the lowest possible level of government.

I believe in enforcing antitrust laws and regulating interstate commerce in accordance with the US Constitution, but otherwise the federal government should interfere as little as possible in the private sector.

I am opposed to institutionalized discrimination by the government, such as the Jim Crow laws but I believe that the government should not prohibit discrimination by private businesses. The free market would reward businesses for not discriminating by sex, race, religion, etc. Government agencies, however, should be prohibited from discriminating against any citizen and also from doing business with private companies that engage in discrimination.

I am opposed to all so-called hate crimes. Acts should be punished, not thoughts. I am also opposed to basing penalties for crimes based on the identity of the victim. Political assassinations should be treated the same as any first degree murder. The punishment for the murder of law enforcement officer should be the same as for any other US citizen. The Founding Fathers never envisioned the creation of protected classes of an elite political class.

I would favor legalization of all drugs for adults but only if people convicted of violent crimes under the influence of such drugs were severely punished - not because I advocate drug use but because I think people should be free to eliminate themselves from the gene pool through their own stupidity. (But only if we can ensure that they hurt only themselves.)

I oppose spending any federal money on natural disaster relief - either in this country or abroad. If a person wants to live along the coast, then they should build a hurricane-proof house or buy enough insurance to cover their potential losses. Ditto for people who decide to live in a flood plane, a tornado prone area, the middle of a forest, or on the edge of a cliff. I would make an exception for terrorist attacks because damage from such attacks is a failure of the federal government to protect its citizens.

I oppose sin taxes. If a product is legal, then it should be taxes at the same rate as every other legal product. I do not want my government trying to micromanage human behavior through taxation. If a product is a deadly threat to people's health, then the government should outlaw its use instead of profiting from its use.

I am strongly opposed to government maintaining a monopoly on gambling or imposing punitive taxes on winnings. State lotteries are taxes on the stupid. If people want to gamble, then they should be able to do so at private casinos, tracks, etc., which typically pay out at a much higher rate than lotteries.

That's my short list. Good thread, BTW.

That just about sums it up..lol.

I stand to the Right. It's a physiological thing with me though. When I begin to lean left, I get nauseous!

Are you conservative, libertarian, or liberal? Find out by using the Nolan Chart...Glen Beck had this on his show yesterday. Go to the link and take the quiz!!! The overwhelming response by his viewers has overloaded their system. You may want to wait a day or two before attempting to take the quiz.

I'm pretty much a republican through and through. I feel that big government hinders the progress of the American people and that we should and must be deeply rooted in religous morallity and a strong military. I also believe that the greatest threat to our government is the govermental system itself. Our government was never intended to be a two party system. The writers of the Constitution acknowledged this and fought, though briefly, to prevent this from happening. I feel that if we eliminated parties and had people work and vote on merit and ideas not party lines many of our problems would be fixed. I also feel that we should allow more competition in the private sector to fix our national problems such as fuel, health care, and banking. I also believe that our government needs to be more pro-business and industry. This will help to strengthen our economy and drive us back to the international power that we once were. We need to return to the thoughts that our presidents pushed for during the booming eras of our past. A return to normalcy as I believe Harding or Wilson put it. A car in every driveway. These were thoughts of building our country up so that its self sustaining that we have gotten away from. Now we're almost a what can my country do for me nation. Kids being raised with their hands out looking for Uncle Sam to place something in it instead of being taught that you can do anything you want. I think that we as a nation are on a slippery slope right now and the next couple of years may alter our country so that it may never be the once great nation she was.

Ah, my dislike of Tim Tebow (the player) stopped after we beat them in the SEC championship Big Grin Something tells me that Tim's a good ol conservative (a real one, not a faux-servative for televisions sake), and that doesnt make him a bad person at all Wink

It says I am Centrist-Conservative. The test is not worded in a very fair way. Some of the choices were pretty extreme. I believe I fall a little more to the left than this chart indicated.

Some of the gun and Social Security questions did not leave me with a choice that I felt really comfortable with. Overall, not a bad test to only be around 10 questions.

Sometimes there are only two choices...you have to make a decision or take a stand because if you don't, someone else will, then they tell you what to do and you have to live with their decision. Being a Conservative is a good thing, IMO!
