BCS uses it and its accurate about 98% the time on betting lines.............its the best rating system out.

I strongly beg to differ.

They are without a doubt the most accurate computer system there is.

Agreed, and they get more accurate as the season wears on.
#9
how does massey do their rankings?
#10
They do tend to be acurate
#11
I see both pro's and con's with the ratings system but it does seem to be fairly accurate.

Last Friday, how Massay predictions played out.

Massay: Newport Catholic 23 - Campbell County 19
Actual: Campbell County 21 - Newport Catholic 17

Massay: Ironton 32 - Ashland 1
Actual: Ashland 26 - Ironton 12

Massay: Lexington Catholic 38 - Breathitt 18
Actual: Lexington Catholic 63 - Breathitt 21

It's not always a perfect science

Are you saying that of all the games they were only wrong on two?
#16
Massey: Highlands 34 Boone County 15
Friday's results: Highlands 36 Boone County 14

And sometimes they nail it.
Actually, I would have thought this would be worse after seeing Boone on Friday. They look lost.
#17
Actually, Massey ends up pretty darned accurate. It's MUCH better than Litkenhaus and Cantrell, IMO.

It's a very ambitious computer program taking all kinds of things into account. Sometimes I wonder if it's just a little -too- sensitive to strength of schedule, though. I remember a few years ago a winless Campbell Co. team remained in the top 20 of their class (they played the NKY biggies).

tradition Wrote:Are you saying that of all the games they were only wrong on two?

Nope, it's the only one's that I looked at.
#19
I didn't mean Massey rankngs are a joke. I was talking about the Massey head to head matchup simulator. That thing is a joke. As for the rankings, I have no clue. They look fairly accurate though.

It hasn't been close on a Lawrence County game all year. Maybe it has some teams right and others completely wrong. Are those the projections now or before they played? If those are the actual projections now and not before they played, they don't hold much water.

Good point, because those are the projections as of today.

OK

i dont pay any attention to any rankings the only thing that matters is who you play how well you play and if you win or lose because if you are ranked higher than somebody dosent mean your gonna win for example breathitt county this year and no matter how sports statisticians look at it analyze it and break it dont it dosent matter for example bell whitley was supposed to be a close game it wasnt and on the college side florida was 30 point favorites to a down UT team not that they are no good but new coach some new players and it was in the swamp well you get the picture but they only won by 10 so does any body agree with me

Now that I put logic to this, shouldn't be dead on after the game? If this is a computer scoring, it takes in all aspects, including the game that is already played. It should be dead nuts after a game! Just like above, what surprises me is even after a game has been played, like in the examples that I showed, how could it compute the game played and still come up with a wrong projection.

I added many projected scores to the Prediction threads. Let's look at how they come out. Then do those same games afterwards and you should see the afterwards projection to be closer to the actual score of the game. Either that or their computer is JUNK!!!!
#26
Just like all rankings. JUNK
#27
Rankings are bad they need to throw them out cause they dont mean a thing if you ant got that ring LMAO
#28
Go to his FAQ and ask him a question if its not on there.

You LC guys are cracking me up though, enjoy your success and back to being relevant.

Actually, Dawg, it's a sign the program is doing a decent job of "dialing in" its previous inaccuracies. This is why it's better as the season progresses. Lawrence Co. is hurt badly in Massey on SOS.

The reason the predictions/projections aren't "dead nuts" is because it's human beings playing the game, not robots. And...there are factors a computer just can't integrate.

There's always variance. The idea is to get it as small as possible.
