2024 Kentucky Baseball
#1
Bat Cats have been in and out of the Top 25 this season, but currently sit at #15 after winning a series at Missouri.

Cats have a date at Miami (OH) tomorrow then a big weekend series at #22 Ole Miss. That's followed up by a rivalry game against Louisville in Lexington on Tuesday, April 2nd.

How does Kentucky get over the hump and compete in Omaha? It feels like we always hang around but never take the next step

I would encourage anyone on a nice spring day to take in a UK baseball game at Ky Proud Park. Great venue, gets you right up on the action. Went to a couple of the UK-IU regional games last year with my son and had a blast. College baseball, especially in person, is pretty dang cool.

Oh boy... this one won't be popular, but a good first step is probably hoping that the Athletic Department isn't breaking the bank on the contracts for any other coaches.

I know that the buyout for Calipari would come from boosters, but I don't know that this would mean that they collectively just donate an additional $33 million. That money will come out of something else eventually.

I think that for all the bad decisions that he's made (e.g., Cal's contract or alcohol sales), Branhart has still been very good at building the profile of sports like baseball, so kicking him to the curb probably stands a good chance of offsetting progress there.

If for no other reason than weather alone, it's going to be tough for a Kentucky to ever have high school baseball on the same level as a Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, or Oklahoma, but we have to compete against all of them.

That and sharing the smaller population of our state with a good Louisville program is always going to be tough.

Been a fun group to watch. I really like Mingione. His teams always play hard. Sure he has had some bad runs but the culture is there. 2 SEC series wins to start the season. Been to the Supers twice. It is a winning culture right now. Only the beginning.

Agreed, it's awesome. Going to try to catch a game or two when UT comes to Lexington.

I get that it isn't the big leagues, but I've always wondered why so many people pass through Lexington to spend more for a worse seat at a Reds game, especially when they are terrible. Same goes for trips across town to Legends games now that the school's policies have been dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming.

It's been awhile, but when I last attended a Kentucky game, it also seemed like the players went above and beyond to take photos with or sign balls for kids.

It is always a fun atmosphere at a UK baseball game. Even more fun when they are winning.

How is softball games at UK? I have a daughter so we like to watch girls sports. We actually went and watched the gymnastics seniors day against Florida this year and she loved it but it is just so far to get to Lexington for us that it just isn't feasible to make it a regular routine but we have talked about taking her to a softball game.

Softball is cool also. My daughter played for 15 years, so I have a soft spot for it. The pace of the game, to me, makes it even a better watch than baseball. UK’s stadium is like a smaller version of the baseball one, you can get super close to the action in most seats.

I should have mentioned that they also have a grassy area in the outfield that’s also a great place to kick back and watch a game.

Really can't go wrong with taking your daughter to a women's sporting event at UK Spud.

This is very true. Volleyball at Memorial is great also, need to check one of those matches out.

Man, the baseball Cats are ROLLING. 23-4 overall heading into Sunday, 7-1 in the SEC after winning the first two at Ole Miss. They host Louisville Tuesday night at KY Proud Park, then have Alabama coming in to town Friday, Saturday and Sunday, would be a great chance to catch a game.
#16
Keeneland on Friday and Saturday and ballgame on Sunday before heading home would have been a great trip. Going to be too cold for this guy though. Definitely going to catch a few games this year.
#17
Cats manhandled Ole Miss. Awesome start. UofL coming to Lexington Tuesday.
#18
SEC tournament in Hoover AL is a possible road trip for me if these guys keep it up.

UK and Arkansas are both 8-1 in conference play. Everyone else has at least three losses. Still a long, long way to go, but a fantastic start. And the Cats are doing it without a ‘superstar’ year from anybody. Looking at SEC stats, the only UK player in the top 10 in any offensive or pitching category is Nick Lopez, fourth overall in batting average at .412.

UK hosts Arkansas for a weekend series in early May. Might be for the top seed in the SEC tourney. They also still have home weekend series with Alabama, Tennessee and Vandy, so plenty of opportunities to see some great college baseball this spring in Lexington.

The SEC is tough. Never an easy weekend, especially with some of the series they still have coming up. Good to see them start off hot.
#21
The Cats crushed Alabama in three games this weekend, now 27-4 overall, a program best 11-1 in the SEC. Getting overshadowed today (pardon the pun) by the eclipse and by something else going on in the UK athletics department, but it’s a feel good story UK fans could use right now.

Aside from the basketball coaching search can we get back to the baseball team talk. Sure they let one slip on Tuesday against Samford but they are #8 and leading Auburn right now. Mingione has this program rolling.

Cats have won first two in Auburn, now 13-1 in SEC. Definitely gonna be in line to host a regional again this year barring a total collapse, and could be putting themselves in position to host a super regional if they can keep this up. Can we start dreaming about Omaha?

I think so.

Maybe not Omaha yet but I'm dreaming of winning the SEC regular season and/or SEC tournament championships. UK has won one regular season championship (shared with Alabama in 2006) and has never won the SEC tournament in its history. Probably going to the SEC tournament but will definitely go to Omaha for the week if the Cats make it. CWS + UK would be about the most fun this old dude could have.

Another weekend sweep! Got some tough ones coming up.

Not saying we have had it easy thought because there is no such thing as an easy weekend in the SEC.

I’ve got a friend who has been to the CWS and he just raved about it, said it’s bucket list for the sports fan. With UK involved, I imagine it would be off the charts.

I've watched parts of the CWS all my life.  Maybe the most underrated sporting event in the country IMO. This might me the year I get to go...

I know everyone is die hard basketball/football first but look at what this program has turned into.

Cats now #3 going into the week. They play at Louisville Tuesday and host Tennessee this weekend. Huge week for the Cats.
