#1
RPI Details | Kentucky High School Athletic Association (khsaa.org)

We you go to the 6A RPI it will tell you all you need to know about the RPI. Tates Creek is #2 and Frederick Douglass is #9 just 4 days after Douglass beat Tates Creek 43-0.

What people don't understand about the RPI  is that it isn't meant to say that Team A is better than Team B. Last season , a bunch of 1A teams had better RPIs than Trinity. All RPI measures is a team's winning percentage , it's opponents winning percentage, and its opponents' opponents winning percentage. Teams that play and lose to good out of state teams are really penalized hard by RPI .  For example, when Douglass lost to Hoban, it got  a 0.00000 for WP , only a 0.50000 for OPW, and only a 0.50000 for OOWP . Douglass would have benefited far more by creaming Jackson County  than losing to Hoban. Even if they had beaten Hoban, they would have been better off beating Jackson County or Lynn Camp, as far as RPI is concerned.

People need to quit criticizing RPI for being bad at ranking whether an individual team is better than another. That's not what it's meant to measure. Of course Douglass is light years better than Tates Creek but it's easy to see why Tates Creek has the better RPI.

But it’s being used to set who gets home field in playoffs. That’s what I have a problem with.

Can't argue with you there.  What's a better solution?

There is between 15-20 states that use RPI use CalPreps rankings because they take games between all schools and not matter the state they are from.
