"MY" Cell Phone Number
#1
True story and I have to vent to someone that will listen...

Believe it or not, I've had some little teenage punk chick calling my cellphone the last two days complaining because I have her old number! Smile Seriously! First, her boyfriend was calling me asking for "Megan" and I was telling the guy, "hey you've got the wrong number." Then he blocked his number and has called me back 7 times asking for her. I finally told him that this wasn't her number and I'm not seeing her or anything and don't know what you're talking about.

Then this morning "Megan" calls me screaming, "You have my old cellphone number!" I'm like, "I pay the bill, obviously you or your momma didn't pay your's so that's why I have your number and I've had it for several months!" Then she stopped short of cussing me out and hung up.

Do you believe this? Has this happened to anyone else! I have the worst luck with cellphones if you only knew. Smile

I haven't had that exact problem but here goes.

For the past several months my phone will ring and it will be my wife or one of my kids. You all know the numbers you have programmed into your phone. Well I will usually answer them in a different way than a normal call. I answer the phone only to have someone on the other end that is not who called me. I get the question of "who are you trying to call" all of the time but these are calls that are incoming to me.

I tried to call QQ's wife the other day and it went to voice mail. I received a call back a few minutes later from a contractor in Springfield Ky asking me who I was trying to reach.

Now keep in mind I make most of my living with my cell phone and I wonder how many calls have not came through to my line. I have had this number for ~6 years now so it is not due to it being a new number.

Cells phones are EVIL!

Sounds like your phone is possessed Midee1! I'd take it back the provider and tell them, maybe they can re-program it or give you a new phone? Cellphones don't cost anything to manufacture and are grossly overpriced.

You would not believe how many times I have been through that. When I first got this new phone I went through 4 phones and 5 Bluetooth earpieces and finally gave up on the Bluetooth. It would never connect. They have since changed the sim card 4 times and just recently sent me a new phone yet again.

5 phones, 5 Bluetooth headsets and 4 sim cards. So far so good with this one but I have only had it about a week.

Just wait for the day Appalachian Wireless moves into the Boyd Co. area and you will never have a problem again.

:thatsfunn :thatsfunn That's cute, my wife's gonna love seeing that.

There's more though...Just got off the phone with the chick's dad! His name is Bill. He wanted to ask me who I was, where I got my phone and how I got the number. I was like, "Look, I own my phone and I pay the bill for this phone." I didn't tell him where I got it or anything more than that my name is Jamey. He was like, "We've been calling that number looking to see who would answer because my daughter lost the phone." I told him, "Then why didn't you have the plan cancelled on the phone when you lost it?" Nevertheless, he finally gave up and told me he was sorry for the confusion. I told him that she was going to cuss me out for having her number and he seemed pretty concerned...

I'll keep you posted!!! Smile

LMAO I lost it there that was great.

As long as you have a 606 area code, you would be able to keep your same number and transfer it to Appalachian Wireless. We offer family plans as well. Prices of them keep going down. How many phones do you have on your plan?

I have 3 phones on my App. Wireless plan... LOVE the service I get and I did hook up with the 8:00 free nights and of course free weekends are a blessing!! LOLOL.... They actually just had a promo last month and I got my "youngin" a razor for 19.99. They are VERY easy to access too.... you can check their website out Midee.... www.appwireless.com

We have 2 family plans with 3 on one and 4 on the other. I also have early nights and weekends, unlimited text messaging on all phones to anyone and unlimited mobile to mobile.

The earliest our night time minutes start is 8. We don't have the option for 7 yet, although just today I got promoted to product specialist where adding new features is my job. I am going to try and pass that. We have unlimited text messaging to anyone as well as mobile to mobile.

So you are trying to get me to switch to an inferior plan??????:p

Seriously the early nights and weekends do not benefit me at all. I use it for the plan that has all of my kids on it. My oldest likes to talk.

I have 2 1400 minute plans with all the bells and whistles and it costs me ~300 per month for all 7 lines.
#18
If I were to switch my service to Appalachian Wireless would I have service in the Millard area of Pike County? I work at Millard Middle School and have Cingular and I have excellent service. I use my phone at work and I was told by someone that you could not get service in that area with Appalachian. I would switch my service if I knew that I would get service there.

I could get you 2 1750 minute plans with caller ID, call waiting, 3 way calling, call forwarding, and voicemail for around 265 per month +tax. Now this isn't including unlimited text messaging or internet. Unlimited text messaging is 19.99/month. This would allow your nights and weekends to start at 8 pm as well.

I just got off the phone with one of our technicians and they are going to pinpoint the closest tower to that area and I will let you know something as soon as they let me know.

Well....It's day 3 (or 4) of my Cell Phone Saga. For those who care, here goes:

Looked up my bill online. I have AT&T and it shows you call log with your account online. The numbers that those mystery people were calling me from show up on my statement as if I'm calling myself! Basically like I'm calling myself, which I wasn't doing. Does that make sense to anyone else?

Anyway, since setting "Bill" the girl's dad straight, I've not had any more weird or mysterious phone calls for going on 24 hours. We'll see what happens. I am going to try and find out if my number was given to someone else to use or vice versa this weekend when I get a chance!!!

I hate cellphones!

That is just hillarious. How can you get the same # that someone else had?

I just wonder if somehow AT&T has given out the same number to both of you. You would be surprised at how much this can happen. The system could get a brain fart and issue two of the same numbers. Now, I don't know how GSM works, but with CDMA (Appalachian Wireless' technology), our cellular switch will not allow two of the same numbers to work at the same time. However, I have seen instances where one person was able to make calls out on their phone, but when someone tried to call them, it rang into another persons voicemail who had the same exact number. It does happen, and you may want to dial 611 from your phone (free call), and speak to customer service about the issue.

That's what I think happened too. I've had my number since June and this just started happening over the weekend. I'm going to talk to someone at the AT&T mothership about this. Smile

"Bill" told me that they had been calling that number for several months now trying to find out who got it or who had "his daughter's phone." That made no sense to me because I've had that number since June without one problem until this past weekend.

He also said his daughter's name was Danielle. I told him some kid named Alex had been calling my number looking for someone named Megan. Funny thing; calls from all parties involved stopped after my conversation with "Bill" yesterday afternoon.

lmao this happend with my home phone once

You'd be amazed @ the women (and men---???) who call our house trying to reach a local gynecologist, it certainly makes for some interesting conversations, especially with older ladies who think I'm being less than honest when I tell them it isn't their gyne----

I am somewhat amused with the conversations of the men, who are trying to speak to a gynecologist!

Tell me about it... I was sitting home one day we had off work a couple of years ago and some 800 number shows up. Well... to make a long story short, they want to know if I am willing to make payments on my husbands open heart surgery. I asked them what they were talking about and they wanted my husbands social security number for confirmation. Of course, I wouldn't give it out but asked for the last four digits of the one that they had on record as having the surgery. Well, it wasn't my husbands BUT they had his address, and phone number associated with the account that was in collection!! When I asked for the birthyear, it was 1956. I told the lady that I didn't know where they got their information BUT my husband was born 14 years LATER and that he has had no surgeries. I then continuted on to tell her that is why so many people have so much trouble with their credit and social security numbers...... because they are given the wrong info and apply that to someone who has no idea of a situtation with their information!! It is SMART to keep a check on your credit information. You never know when someone else INCLUDING a business is gonna screw something up!!!
