Southeast Missouri 78 Morehead State 62

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State men's basketball could not capitalize on its halftime lead and ultimately fell to Ohio Valley Conference opponent Southeast Missouri 78-62 Thursday evening at Johnson Arena.

The Eagles used a hot start, highlighted by a 12-0 run over a span of 4:22 to take the lead 27-17 with 6:09 left in the opening half. The Redhawks went on a run of their own in the closing minutes of the half, but sophomore Jordan Walker drained a buzzer-beating three-pointer to put the Eagles ahead 36-35 at the break.

In the second half the Redhawks continued to play hot offensively, running the lead up to 10 points at 14:51. Morehead State mustered a 6-0 run to get within striking distance at 63-59 with 6:07 to go but were unable to get any closer.

Jordan Walker led the way offensively with 17 points. He was seconded by junior guard A.J. Hicks, who tallied 13.

Freshman forward Malek Green recorded his second career double-double, scoring 11 and corralling 10 rebounds.

The loss dropped the Eagles to a record of 6-18 overall and 2-11 in the OVC. Southeast Missouri is now 11-15 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

Morehead State will next travel to rival Eastern Kentucky (8-18,2-11). Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. ET at McBrayer Arena.
