Hanover, Ind. â In a matchup of the two teams tied for second place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Hanover College Panthers collected a one-sided 93-56 victory over the Transylvania men's basketball team on Wednesday evening at Collier Arena.
After building a 47-30 halftime lead, the Panthers outscored the Pioneers 46-26 in the second half to roar to an impressive home victory.
The Pioneers fell to 13-5 overall, and 8-3 in HCAC play, good for sole possession of fourth place in the HCAC standings. With the win, Hanover moves into a three-way tie for first place with Mount St. Joseph and Rose-Hulman.
The first six minutes of the game saw a back-and-forth affair as junior forward Bo Schuh scored on a layup to tie the game at 9-all. Hanover then embarked upon a 9-2 scoring run to seize a lead they would evolve to greater measures for the rest of the night.
Hanover's first half was enhanced by 7-for-13 shooting from three-point range and hitting 14-of-20 attempts from the free-throw line. In the second half, the Panthers continued a potent free throw procession, knocking down 19-of-26 attempts while shooting 48 percent from the field in the final half.
Freshman guard Devin Twenty scored a team-high 12 points off the bench, hitting two 3-pointers.
Transylvania next faces another team tied for first-place in the HCAC on Saturday, January 27 when it visits the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineeers in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Pioneers face the Engineers at 3:00 p.m. at Hulbert Arena.
