North Hardin 21 Boyle County 20 (OT)

A extremely young Boyle County gave a rock solid North Hardin team all they wanted and then some, before falling by a single point in overtime.

The first quarter was unmistakably a defensive war, with both teams taking turns stopping the other. Brock Carroll,the 5-9,175 pound linebacker for the Spartans would keep the defensive battle going, when he stopped Trintin Ashburn for a short loss, at the 9:23 mark of the quarter. The biggest offensive play in the opening quarter took place at the 8:54 mark, when Sam Tiller found Reese Smith wide open for a long gain all the way to the Spartans 39-yard line.

11:07 was the mark in the 2nd quarter where Miguel Luna got to Landen Bartleson for a 7-yard loss. Trintin Ashburn caught a screen pass on 3rd and 8 and with some nice blocking he picked up the first down, with 10:27 left in the half. Tiller would pick up a first down with his feet at the 9:24 mark of the quarter. Boyle County would find pay dirt on a nice pass from Tiller to Smith, who broke a tackle on his way to the score. Hagan Wilburn held the ball and making good on the point after was Nick Ruby, to make it a, 7-0 Boyle County lead.

With 6:33 left in the half Smith fielded a punt and was clocked immediately by Tavian Starks. Starks wasted no time getting down field to put himself in position to make the nice play.
With 5:52 left in the half mother nature showed herself causing Tiller to have the ball slip out of his hands on the 12-yard line and making the recovery for the Spartans was a hustling Terren Bragers.

Facing a fourth and four, with 4:34 left in the half, the Spartans found themselves facing a fourth and four, Isiah Bankedhead would take off after seeing he had no where to go he reversed field and score the first touchdown of the season for his team. The point after kick by Junior kicker, Analu Rugerio locked this one up at seven.

Facing a 3rd and 13 with 3:13 left in the half, the Rebels got the first down on a nice scramble by Tiller added to that was 15 yards after a flag was called on the Spartans. Following a Pete Johnson(Former Ohio State fullback) block by 6-0,265 pound junior Zane Young,Ashburn went 36-yards for another Rebels score. The point after increased the lead to, 14-7 with 2:54 left in the half.

The half would see two picks in the final 49.5 seconds of the half. The first was by Evan Turner of the Rebels. On the next play Isiah Bankhead made a diving pick for the Spartans.

North Hardin would use a 12-play, 69-yard drive to lock this one up at 14. The score came on a Bankhead to James Pitre 10-yard pass. The score came with 7:32 left in the third.

With 2:39 left in the fast moving third quarter, Tiller picked up five yards on a third and six.
Then with 2:01 showing on the clock, the Spartans Brock Carroll sacked Tiller for a 9-yard loss to being up a 2nd and 19.
The quarter had one final big defensive play and that came on a tackle by Mitchell(Take this job and shove it) Paycheck for a one yard loss on a carry by Tavian Starks, with 6.6 left.

A Boyle County fumble resulted in a first down for the Spartans, with 11:24 left in the game.

Mother nature again showed her powers at the 9:51 mark of the quarter when Eric Moore slip and took a 13-yard loss on the play.

The final big play of regulation came with 3:11 , when Even Tarter broke up a long pass that would have given the Spartans a big gain.

In overtime Boyle County got the ball first and needed two plays to go the short ten yards needed for a touchdown. Scoring was Ashburn on a 5-yard run. The play of the game came on the point after that the Spartans blocked, leaving this a 6-point game.

The Spartans needed three plays to go the short ten yards needed to score. Making the score was Bankhead on a 2-yard run. Coming into make the winning kick for the Spartans was Rugerio.

What happened on the missed Boyle extra point? Bad snap, slow getting the kick off, bad blocking? Just curious

New kicker and poor blocking. Kicker was a little slow getting to the ball but it wouldn't have mattered.
