Guess this officially solves the questions iv been wandering...
#3
This is the best 4A poll that I have seen.
#4
I am not saying I disagree with the ranking..but how in the World, mathematically speaking, is Belfry ranked second with (8) First place votes and still 12 full points behind Boyle County?

Did someone completely leave them off their ballot or something?

Can you or some explain how votes and points work? I've only ever paid attention to the numbers on the left, lol.

Lex Christian with 1 first place vote? Danville ranked ahead of CAL? SMH.

Sure.

In this case each person who submits a poll will give their own Top 10. Each spot is then counted as points.

For example:
1st Place= 10 points
4th Place= 7 points
10th Place= 1 point

The First Place votes are noted in parenthesis.

They then total all the points up and rank based off the points. In the case of 3A, Boyle County totaled 128 points on 14 total ballots and received (4) First place voted. The total amount of points possible is 140 (14 ballots X 10 points).. since we know 10 people voted someone else #1 this means either one person put Boyle at 4th..or two people put them at 3rd on their ballots.

In the case of Belfry, we know they had 80 points on 8 ballots. This means on the 6 remaining ballots they accounted for a total of 36 points. Either all 6 of those ballots had them at 5th place (not likely), or some had them higher but other ballots had them lower. For example if three people put them at 2nd ( 24 points), then the other three totaled 12 points and had them way down the list on their ranking.

Not that polls matter, but you've said it mathematically exactly right. There are of course arguments for Boyle and LC being ranked ahead - I get that, especially starting the season. Maybe another could get a vote or two higher. I just don't see two other teams keeping the average at 5th place for 6 voters.

I agree.

I think most likely someone left them off their ballot.. whether by intention or by shear forgetfulness. Either that happened or there were a couple ballots that are just painfully bad and mis-informed. Considering Louisville Moore had 5 points I think this is fairly likely as well. I don't see two people ranking Louisville Moore so this would tell me someone thought it wise to rank them #6 in their poll.

The other comical ranking I see that tells me the AP Poll needs better voters:

Perry Central not only has 17 points... someone actually gave them a First Place vote.

Ludlow also got a first place vote.

I imagine some voter take liberties early in the season. We see it in college polls, why not high school. (7 points for PC among 13 other voters - so at least half left them off completely).

Maybe each voter truly believes their ballot - I hope they do - which is OK. Some may just be giving props to their local school early in the season. Not much harm in that, but I hope each voter gets serious once records/performances begin to accumulate.

There will be LOTS of movement in most of these polls over the next 5-6 weeks. They really don't mean/reflect much until mid-October.
#13
I think it has been discussed before that many of the voters have little if no knowledge of teams outside there area of reporting. It's not an easy job but you would think that a little more thought could be put into the voting.

thanks for the info

aweful quiet in ramland this week. nice to see new polls out. and they got it right. class 1A poll for sure. tough top ten is pretty accurate. also seeing Fairview ranked ahead of the mighty rams of raceland sure will feed the animosity of the rivals!!

I think that's very possible. Just doesn't make sense otherwise.

These polls will be shaken quiet a bit this week with the slate of games being played. There are a lot of top teams playing each other.
#18
6a rankings are a joke!

Have Paintsville AND Johnson Central ever been both ranked in the top 3 of their respective classes in the same poll? (Lemme answer that for you: no.)

What a great day for Johnson County football, period. No matter how Friday's games turn out, it's heart warming to see.
