2015 Realignment Numbers
#1
With the 2015 realignment coming up, I predict some major changes.

First of all, this IS NOT the KHSAA's final draft of the next realignment. That wont come out for a little while. This is just the numbers and where teams fall.

Second of all, the KHSAA will use the average of the 2012/2013 and2013/2014 numbers for slotting each school in the class they belong.

The KHSAA recently released the 2013/2014 numbers and we can start actually putting numbers together.

(This is from top to bottom. I'm not aligning them in what regions or districts they will play in.

I will post this class by class as I get it done.
Im retyping this.

Note that some teams will be allowed to play up or down for geography purposes, etc. and will make the outlook change by one or two teams in each class probably. If every team was FORCED to play in the class they are suppose to, this is how the alignment would look.

Some big things that stand out if this holds up...

Mayfield to 2A
Desales to 3A
Caldwell County to 3A
CAL to 3A
Bardstown to 3A
Boyle to 3A
Lex Cath to 3A
Wayne to 4A
Cov Cath to 5A
Rock to 3A

I know this will never happen. Some teams will be given the privledge of playing where they want because of travel time, but if the KHSAA stays strict on realignment numbers, this could be a major change.

I look at Mayfield for example. I don't see how they could possibly play down to 1A again in 2015 when there is 9 teams smaller than them, no matter there travel time.

For my 5A region 4 counterparts on here, I could honestly see LCC and PCC having to stay in 4A this time around if there is a way they can group North and South in district 8 with Whitley and Harlan County.
#9
I think Betsy Layne is going to Class A and be in the seam district as Pikeville.
#10
I don't believe anyone is allowed to play "down" for geography purposes.
#11
What would the 1A districts look like?
#12
HDE Wrote:I don't believe anyone is allowed to play "down" for geography purposes.

Notice the ETC in my post.

The "geography" reference was for teams that play up, like a Perry or Letcher.

The etc. was for teams that play down.
#13
Its actually funny, but if they made everyone play in the class they belong according to this, I think each class would grow in parity.
#14
foxbatone Wrote:I think Betsy Layne is going to Class A and be in the seam district as Pikeville.

Im not sure what they'll end up doing but if Betsy Layne plays down, that could move Crittenden County up and I would imagine they would want to for travel time.

The biggest surprise still to me is I don't see anyway Mayfield stays in 1A football, and im not sure there fans want to.

I may try to create district out of these numbers.

I wasn't trying to argue with you ...... this time.
I don't get it though. Are you saying some teams play down or not?
#16
Going by this realignment, 5A is overloaded with west teams.
This makes it hard to even things out. Very hard.
Some schools that are close and border each other would have to be separated into opposite district to even make it remotely work. Its the reason some schools are allowed to play up and down, but if it was forced to play in this way, this is the closest thing I could come up with. Maybe some of you WKY fans could break down the west a little better. There are a couple of 6 team district in the west to offset two four-team district in the east.

Region 1

District 1

Graves County
Marshall County
Christian County
Ohio County
Owensboro
Apollo

District 2

Bowling Green
South Warren
Barren County
Greenwood
Logan County

Region 2

District 3

North Bullitt
Bullitt East
Bullitt Central
South Oldham
Southern
Grayson County

District 4

Atherton
Valley
Doss
Iroquois
Fairdale

Region 3

District 5

Covington Catholic
Conner
Cooper
Grant County

District 6

Woodford County
West Jessamine
East Jessamine
Anderson County
Montgomery County

Region 4

District 7

Pulaski County
Madison Southern
Southwestern
Lincoln County

District 8

North Laurel
Whitley County
Harlan County
South Laurel

As you can see, by allowing Perry and Letcher to play in the east, teams like Owensboro and Apollo in the west could drop to 4A, and by letting John Hardin play in 5A, and dropping another, it would really ease the tension off the geography hurdles.

Im just messing with you. This time.

Some teams are allowed to play down.
#18
I know they can play up, but I don't think they would let anyone play down.
#19
Just for fun, I put the 4A teams into districts:

District 1: Calloway County, Hopkins County Central, Hopkinsville, Madisonville-North Hopkins
District 2: Allen County-Scottsville, Franklin-Simpson, Warren East, Warren Central
District 3: Breckinridge County, John Hardin, Moore, Nelson County, Western
District 4: Collins, Franklin County, North Oldham, Shelby County, Spencer County,
District 5: Marion County, Russell County, Taylor County, Wayne County, Mercer County
District 6: Clay County, Knox Central, Letcher County Central, Perry County Central
District 7: Bourbon County, Harrison County, Highlands, Holmes, Mason County, Scott
District 8: Ashland Blazer, Boyd County, East Carter, Greenup County, Johnson Central, Rowan County

Travel wouldn't be much of a problem in the west, but in the east there would be some long bus rides to playoff games.

No, they aren't.

In 6-A:
- With Marshall dropping to 5-A, Muhlenberg would get shifted back to D-1 (from D-2)
- North Hardin (up from 5-A), would move back into the Central Hardin-Meade district (replacing Muhlenberg)
- Jeffersontown (up from 5-A), would replace Southern (dropping to 5-A) in District 3
- Still have five NKY teams (Boone, Campbell, Dixie, Ryle, SK)
- Still have only three teams in District 2 (Central Hardin, Meade, North Hardin)

So no good way to do eight four-team districts

One solution I have would let Boone drop to 5-A (as smallest 6-A team) and bring up Graves (one of largest in 5-A).

Travel for Graves wouldn't be worse in 6-A compared to 5-A. Might be better actually.

Muhlenberg can stay in District 2 then.

NKY becomes a 4-team district in 6-A.

Boone could be in a 5-A district with CovCath, Cooper, Conner and Grant.

Scotty_Bronson Wrote:What would the 1A districts look like?

Crittenden County would replace Mayfield in District 1. Paintsville moves from District 7 to 8 to replace Allen Central. Brossert replaces Paintsville in District 7. Minimum changes. Paintsville moves to a better district travel wise.

That definitely will NOT happen. No chance.

Brossart is a private NKY school.

Brossart is closer to all four 1AD4 schools (Beechwood, Bellevue, Ludlow, Dayton) and a D3 school (Bracken) than it would be to ANY school in 1AD7.

Brossart's 115 miles from Raceland, 120 miles from Ashland (Fairview) and 70 miles from Carlisle (Nicholas County).

Brossart will replace Bracken County in 1AD3 (and since D3 plays D4, that would make closer travel in playoffs) and put Bracken in D7 (Bracken is less than 45 miles from Nicholas) before Brossart goes to D7.
#25
^^I agree. I cant see a NKY team in district 7. Bracken is the most logical. Paintsville moving to district 8 makes sense though. Especially with AC moving up. It always suprised me to see Allen Central struggle. They always have big numbers enrollment wise, atleast for a 1A team. Yet they dont field many football players and in recentyears havent garnerd mch success.

Buc-a-roo Wrote:No, they aren't.

Yes they are. Newly consolidated schools have the option of playing down to start things off. I thought you would know this since Harlan County was allowed to play down in there first year.

No where in my post did I say that anyone could play down for travel reasons. That is why teams play up.

I will say this though. If they don't allow some teams to play down in the next alignment that shouldn't, then some classes will be really heavy on one side like 5A will be in the west.
Im interested to see what happens with Letcher and Perry.

Good work
This is exactly what I was thinking when I was working up the 5A numbers.
I don't think they would let Boone drop to 5A, but it would make sense and work out for your mock 6A district and my mock 5A districts.
#28
As many have said, 3A would look like a lot of fun.
Somebody should do a run of mock 3A districts.
#29
These are the numbers the KHSAA will be looking at to start the discussion this month.

3A was a little difficult:

District 1: Caldwell County, Fort Campbell, Paducah Tilghman, Trigg County, Union County
District 2: Adair County, Bardstown, Elizabethtown, Hart County, LaRue County, Thomas Nelson
District 3: Christian Academy-Louisville, DeSales, Henry County, Waggener, Western Hills, Central

District 5: Breathitt County, Estill County, Jackson County, Powell County, Rockcastle County
District 6: Bell County, Corbin, Knott County Central, McCreary Central
District 7: Belfry, Lawrence County, Pike County Central, Sheldon Clark
District 8: Fleming County, Lewis County, Morgan County, Russell

Pendleton County

I left out Pendleton County because I had no idea where to put them.
