NBA Draft
#1
1
Nerlens Noel
PF/C Kentucky
Freshman7-0206

Cleveland continues to give the impression it is undecided, with sources saying Noel, Alex Len, Victor Oladipo, Ben McLemore and Anthony Bennett are all possibilities. The Cavaliers aren't afraid to make an outside-the-box choice, as they showed in drafting Dion Waiters fourth last year. In addition, Cleveland continues to aggressively shop this pick, according to sources, but one executive said the Cavs "have completely overvalued it." It's looking more and more like Cleveland will keep the pick, and rival executives still expect Noel to be the guy. He's a 7-foot defensive menace who will solidify the middle, either at power forward or center, and fortify a defense that ranked last in opponents' field-goal percentage (47.6) in 2012-13.

2
Ben McLemore
SG Kansas
Freshman6-5189

Before we get all worked up about McLemore's poor workouts, remember this: A smart executive isn't going to put much stock in them, not after a solid college season. Several executives believe that the prototypical shooting guard has "All-Star potential." The Magic have been working the Clippers for a deal that would send Eric Bledsoe to Orlando for a packaged headlined by Arron Afflalo, but Los Angeles prefers to keep Bledsoe for now in hopes of landing a bigger offer, a source said. Afflalo has three years and $23 million left on his contract, but it will be difficult for the Magic to pass on McLemore, a Ray Allen-type shooter with superior athleticism.

3
Otto Porter
SF Georgetown
Sophomore6-9198

There continues to be some internal debate in Washington between Porter and Anthony Bennett, but barring a deal -- a source said the Wizards are still open to moving the pick -- Porter has the inside track. Bennett and Oladipo will get some consideration here, but it would be surprising if the Wizards passed on Porter, a versatile forward with an excellent mid-range game who will slip right into a young core headlined by John Wall and Bradley Beal.

4
Alex Len
C Maryland
Sophomore7-1255

The Bobcats badly need a big man to shore up a frontcourt that ranked among the worst scoring and rebounding units in the league last season. The uber-talented Bennett will be considered strongly because, as one league executive said, "Teams are a little scared to pass him up." But two rival executives believe that Len -- a physical center who rebounds well, protects the paint (2.1 blocks) and can play with his back to the basket -- is on the rise, despite the fact that a stress fracture in his left ankle has kept him out of individual workouts. And remember this: New coach Steve Clifford has an excellent reputation when it comes to developing big men. Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing was recently added to Clifford's staff, too.

5
Victor Oladipo
SG Indiana
Junior6-4213

Oladipo, despite lingering concerns about his perimeter shooting, continues to interview well and work out well. His strong performance at the combine last month was exactly what teams wanted to see. "He doesn't give you many reasons not to like him," a Western Conference executive said. Oladpio is renowned for his work ethic and teams love his athleticism and bulldog defensive mentality, attributes that should enable him to contribute right away.

6
Anthony Bennett
SF/PF UNLV
Freshman6-7239

An NBA source said the Pelicans plan to take the best player on the board, regardless of position. Sources also said the Pelicans really like Trey Burke, but the talented Bennett -- who has the offensive skills to play small forward -- may be too good to pass up. "He's ridiculously talented," a Western Conference general manager said. "There's a superstar in him." Bennett is an explosive athlete, has a credible back-to-the basket and face-up game and legitimate three-point range (38.3 percent last season). He's something of a tweener, but he will find a place to play.

7
Michael Carter-Williams
PG Syracuse
Sophomore6-6185

1. Cleveland Cavaliers: SG Ben McLemore, Kansas

No one in this draft makes sense as a No. 1 pick. The talent at the top is weaker than any draft since at least 2006, when Andrea Bargnani was selected first overall by the Toronto Raptors. Moreover, none of the top prospects are ideal fits for the Cavaliers.

NORMAL MOCK: Who goes where?

ANALYSIS: Every team's draft needs

The best fit might be Otto PorterJr., but he lacks the upside to go first. That leaves McLemore, Anthony Bennett, Nerlens Noel and Alex Len. Noel and Len are centers with high upside, but both have leg injuries. Could a season defined by leg injuries lead to a draft headed by a player who can't even play yet because of one? That might be likely, but it doesn't make it right.

McLemore is the prospect who seems most likely to wind up an All-Star for years to come. He's a smooth scorer who doesn't force anything, an important factor for a guard playing next to Kyrie Irving. Dion Waiters, whom the Cavs drafted No. 4 overall last season, is more of a combo guard who could be better off the bench and could play next to McLemore in smaller lineups. McLemore also is ready to play for a team that could make a surprise playoff push next season.

2. Orlando Magic: C Nerlens Noel, Kentucky

McLemore would be the better fit here, too, but the Magic have the opportunity to take a risk with this pick because they're not going to be very good next season either way. Point guard is the biggest need, but Trey Burke would be a reach at this point. Noel, who is coming off knee surgery, could contrast with center Nik Vucevic to form a nice big-man pairing, playing together while also able to relieve each other.

NOEL: Knee injury will make him better, he says

3. Washington Wizards: SF Otto Porter Jr., Georgetown

The hometown pick makes too much sense to pass up here. Porter is a versatile wing with a great basketball IQ. He'll fit in perfectly with Bradley Beal and John Wall as the Wizards build a team that might be able to win now and definitely has a bright future. His upside is limited compared with other available options, but the safe pick makes sense.

4. Charlotte Bobcats: PF Anthony Bennett, UNLV

The Bobcats need a scorer. Kemba Walker attacks relentlessly, but he is not efficient enough to lead a team in scoring. Bennett has the look of a poor man's Carmelo Anthony, with natural scoring ability from either forward position. He contrasts sharply with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, the high-energy No.2 pick of last year's draft who should form a nice combination with Bennett in the Bobcats' frontcourt of the future.

OH, CANADA: Basketball's future world power?

5. Phoenix Suns: C Alex Len, Maryland

Len could be the No. 1 pick, as the Cavaliers have shown interest in him. But he had surgery on a stress fracture in his ankle. The Ukranian big man has tremendous upside because of his athleticism and size, but he also is a project whose offensive skills come and go. Still, the Suns organization is undergoing a major overhaul this offseason, and Len is the best choice for a building block at this point in the draft.

6. New Orleans Pelicans: SG Victor Oladipo, Indiana

The Eric Gordon situation is a strange one, as no one is sure of the shooting guard's future. The Pelicans would be wise to move on, particularly with a playmaker of Oladipo's caliber available. He would take some of the pressure of Greivis Vasquez, who emerged as a reliable point guard last season, and run an explosive pick-and-roll with Anthony Davis.

7. Sacramento Kings: PG Trey Burke, Michigan

The Kings haven't had a good point guard since Mike Bibby was at his peak nearly a decade ago. Burke should be as good or better than Bibby. He would have had a decent shot at going in the top five, but five of the top six teams already start young and talented point guards. Isaiah Thomas is a fine scorer off the bench, but he's not the future for the Kings. Burke could help lead that organization into a new era.

1. Cleveland Cavaliers
Ten years after taking LeBron, the Cavs once again have the No. 1 overall pick. They had it in 2011 as well and took point guard Kyrie Irving. This year’s decision is not as clear cut. The consensus is that they’ll take 7-footer Nerlens Noel from Kentucky, even if they aren’t as high on him as some other teams.

2. Orlando Magic
Orlando has done a really poor job on draft night in recent years. Not since taking Dwight Howard with the first overall pick in 2004 has it landed a star. It would be hard to mess this up, however: the Magic can’t go wrong with Otto Porter, Ben McLemore, or Victor Oladipo.

3. Washington Wizards
The Wizards have a promising young backcourt with John Wall and Bradley Beal. The best players in this draft would fit just fine with that duo. Next season, expect Washington to increase its winning percentage for the fourth year in a row.

4. Charlotte Bobcats
Charlotte should probably take the best player available, but who is that? It could be whoever is left from the Noel/Porter/McLemore/Oladipo quartet, or it could be Anthony Bennett or Alex Len. New head coach Steve Clifford mentored Yao Ming and Dwight Howard, so he knows the impact a great center can have, so Len could be the pick here.

5. Phoenix Suns
The Suns are drafting here for a reason; like most of the lottery teams, they have many needs. Point guard is not one of them, however, so expect Phoenix to bolster its perimeter scoring with Kansas’ McLemore, if he’s still here.

6. New Orleans Pelicans
The newly-named Pelicans have Greivis Vazquez and last year’s lottery pick Austin Rivers, but many experts believe they’re interested in another point guard, and Trey Burke is worthy of this draft spot. If Len slides here, New Orleans has shown interest in him as well, despite the fact that they have Anthony Davis. Yeah, trying to figure out the thought process of some of these struggling franchises is not easy.

7. Sacramento Kings
With a new general manager hired so recently, it is hard to get a good read on Sacramento. Despite using recent draft picks on Tyreke Evans, Isaiah Thomas, and Jimmer Fredette, the Kings might be inclined to bring in a true point guard like Burke or Michael Carter-Williams. That line of thinking likely also nabs them the best available player.

Wizards: Anthony Bennett (PF, 20, 6-7, UNLV, freshman) Can play with both big men in the frontcourt. 4. Bobcats: Ben McLemore (SG, 20, 6-5, Kansas, freshman) Could replace Ben Gordon at shooting guard. 5. Suns: Victor Oladipo (SG/SF, 21, 6-4, Indiana, junior) His defense is needed more than Otto Porter's offense. 6. Pelicans: Otto Porter (SF, 19, 6-8, Georgetown, sophomore) Draws comparisons to Tayshaun Prince 7. Kings: Cody Zeller (C, 20, 7-0, Indiana, sophomore) Kings need a center ready to play the day he gets drafted.

A very weak draft.
#10
This draft class is flat out horrible.
#11
^ it is bad too!
#12
If the Cavs take Noel #1, they are taking a huge gamble. All Noel does is block shots and it may not be easy coming off the injury. He may be another Sam Bowie or Greg Oden.
#13
I love the Bennett pick. This draft is very weak. McLemore is probably the best player in the draft but with Irving and Waiters why pick McLemore? Noel doesn't have the offensive game at this point plus coming off a serious injury. I personally think the Cavs just hit a home run.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - After falling to the sixth pick in the NBA Draft, former UK center Nerlens Noel will be traded by New Orleans to Philadelphia, according to Yahoo! Sports.

In return, the Pelicans get Jrue Holiday and a 2014 first-round draft pick.

Speculation on why Noel fell out of the top five picks centers around his surgically repaired knee.

Mj and the Bobcats took a surprising pick too, Zeller at 4. I bet many didn't see that one coming.
