The Ultimate Fighter

judgementday Wrote:Thanks for posting this. I missed watching it due to work. Which sucks seeing that it was shown live.

That one guy is 6'3" at 155? He may prove to be a tough match-up in the house.

Your welcome! Yeah, I was surprised that someone that tall would want to fight at such a light weight. His height and reach could definitely be a big factor but, the majority of his fight was in the clinch holding his opponent against the wall.

Yeah, i knew i read about him. It was an upcoming fight. Ive watched a few of the xfc's. I loved them. They always are exciting fights.

Call it now...

K.O of the season....

That was a great adjust to throw that knee up instead of whiffing on the kick. I agree with you J-Rod, KO of the season. I cant wait to see Marcello fight next week, he's gonna be tough to beat. He could be a tough out for anyone at 155 given time.

The win totally shocked me but, I always root for the underdog and I am glad that Vick got the win! Here is an article from UFC.

[Image: http://static.foxsports.com/content/fsco...35_220.JPG]

On a day full of upsets as Mizzou and Duke fell to lower-ranked teams in March Madness action, Team Cruz pulled off a third as lanky boxer James “The Executioner” Vick knocked out Daron Cruickshank with a big knee in the first round.

“I thought he [Vick] lost his fight to get into the house, and I think that's a guaranteed win for us,” said Cruickshank's coach, Urijah Faber, when announcing the fight pairing earlier in the week. Cruz admitted his fighter was the underdog – in last week’s elimination bouts, Vick had eked out a split decision in a tough scrum with Dakota Cochrane, while Cruickshank’s kickboxing had dominated Drew Dober.

Inside the TUF Gym in Las Vegas, the two started slowly, circling one another to test their distance. Cruickshank – a kickboxer trained by his father in striking and pro kickboxer mom – threw a few kicks, but struggled to connect on the fighter 7 inches taller and with a 6.5-inch reach advantage. Vick threw a some jabs and range-finding kicks, gaining confidence as the seconds wore on.

Cruickshank exploded with a big left kick to the body and a spinning-back foot. But the 6’3” Vick’s height spelled the end for the 5’8” “Detroit Superstar” as Cruickshank shot for a takedown at the same time that Vick launched another kick. Vick adjusted, threw low, and his right knee knocked Cruickshank out at 2:16 of the first round.

"That move was very planned, it was a right hand, left hook, two-three combination to a kick," said Vick. "It was meant to be a full-on kick but I could not get it extended in time. He came in and hit the knee. He shot in and it hit him right on the button. He went out."

Vick also credited Team Cruz with giving him the mindset and tools to win the fight. "I heard my coaches screaming throw this combination. As soon as I threw it it landed. Magic, you know?"

“I think Urijah completely underestimated this kid,” said UFC president Dana White after the bout.

That was a brutal knee. Wasn't so sure he was going to pull it off. I don't think he would have won had he not been able to catch him but congrats to him on the win.

Yeah, so far, his height and reach advantage seems to be compensating for, I don't want to say ability but, his lack of experience compared to the other fighters.

Kidd KO - Lawrence Wins

In TUF seasons past, the strategy has been to pick off the weaker fighters in the early bouts. But bantamweight champ and current coach Dominick Cruz flipped the script last week when he had control of the matchups. Instead of finding an easy mark, he pitted his top pick - Black House MMA kickboxer Justin Lawrence - against Team Faber's Cristiano Marcello, a Gracie BJJ black belt who's trained Chute Boxe fighters like Wanderlei Silva and Shogun Rua.

"By choosing Marcello and Lawrence, I'm making both those athletes better fighters, because they weren't expecting it," explained Cruz. "There's a lot of eyes on these guys and that's the type of pressure that builds champions."

When it came up to living up to the pressure, 21-year-old Lawrence did not disappoint, meting out his strikes before finishing with a knockout at 3:16 of the second round. The defeat also took down Team Faber's second pick, which Cruz described as the strategic equivalent of "taking out one of their legs."

The first round was a slow feeling-out period: Marcello planted in the center of the cage and Lawrence circled and feinted, trying to find his range on the Brazilian with a 5-inch reach advantage. Combos were few and far between as fighters lobbed single punches and kicks with increasing success as the round wore on, one push kick from Lawrence knocking Marcello onto the mat.

The action heated up in the second, as Lawrence came out with an array of kicks like the ones he wielded impressively in the series premiere. More comfortable with his range, Lawrence's mission was to get in, strike, then move out of danger before he could get taken down into Marcello's world.

Lawrence easily tossed his opponent to the mat once from the clinch and later in the round knocked him down with a left hook. Though Marcello tried to goad Lawrence into playing on the ground, Lawrence refused, forcing the jiu-jitsu player and oldest competitor on the show to stand back up and chase him around the cage.

As the round wore on, Marcello appeared increasingly tired. With Faber yelling for his fighter to keep his chin down, Lawrence began landing his signature left hook at will, each time moving quickly backward to avoid getting tied up -- which also gave Marcello no chance to recover from the peppering punches. Dazed from a good half dozen or so left hooks, Marcello was finally finished with another that laid him out flat on his back.

"I'm sad for sure, I wanted to bring the victory for Faber's team," said the disappointed 34-year-old post-loss, though he had kind words for his opponent.. "He's a great kid and he has a great future."

Lawrence returned the praise, saying "He's a legend, he's got the most experience in the house, and he's a champion."
