LSU 72 - (10) Kentucky 61 - SEC Tournament(Womens)
#1
This probably knocked the Cats out of a #2 seed

NASHVILLE – Kentucky had no answers.

The No. 10 Cats had no answers for the Louisiana State zone. They had no answer for their own offensive woes.

They had no answers on the other end of the floor either.

The sum of that was a 72-61 loss at the hands of LSU in the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

And Kentucky left Bridgestone Arena with loads of questions heading into NCAA Tournament play in two weeks.

UK’s vaunted defense had no answer for the LSU attack. The Tigers made their first eight shots in the second half and led by as many as 18 points.

Kentucky waged its last stand, cutting the LSU lead to nine points twice in the final three minutes but, unlike Kentucky, the Tigers always had an answer.

Courtney Jones, who had 10 of LSU’s first 12 points, led the Tigers with 18 points. LaSondra Barrett added 15 points in the win. Adrienne Webb had 11 points.

SEC Player of the Year A’dia Mathies led Kentucky with 18 points. Keyla Snowden added 17 points, but no other player scored in double figures.

It was the second time this season the Cats lost to the Tigers.

And the first half of this one looked eerily similar to that loss in Baton Rouge on Feb. 5. UK couldn’t find a way to score against the Tigers’ lengthy 2-3 zone.

Against it, UK managed a season-low 16 points at the break and trailed by 10. The Cats turned the ball over 11 times before the half and were outrebounded 22-9.

The Tigers grabbed the edge early, scoring 10 unanswered midway through the first half.

Kentucky responded by scoring six straight to cut it to four points, but LSU wasn’t done yet and extended the lead back to 10 with 2:42 to go.

In the first half, Kentucky had two straight five-minute scoring droughts.

LSU is comfortable in a grind-it-out game, winning 41-40 over Arkansas the night before, which was the lowest combined score (81) in SEC Tournament history.

Really bad game for Kentucky. They will be a 3 seed at best.
