(10) Kentucky 71 - Florida 67 (Womens)
#1
NASHVILLE — The Southeastern Conference handed Kentucky its regular-season trophy and then Florida did everything it could to deny the Cats their shot at the tournament trophy.

The Gators had No. 10 and top-seeded Kentucky on the ropes in Bridgestone Arena on Friday in the quarterfinals before UK found a way to win out 71-67.

Despite shooting just 20.9 percent in the first half and trailing by as many as 13 points in the second half, Kentucky went up on Bria Goss's first field goal of the game with 1:16 to play and held on.

A'dia Mathies had 21 of her 24 points in the second half to lead Kentucky (25-5). Keyla Snowden, who kept UK in the game in the first half, had 17 points.

UK advances to Saturday's semifinals where it will face the winner of Friday night's Arkansas-Louisiana State game.

Florida fell to 19-12 this season and will await its NCAA Tournament fate.

The first half couldn't have gone much worse for Kentucky, which trailed by as many as 14 points midway through.

The Cats had layups fall out of the basket, jumpers ping off of every inch of the rim and finished by shooting a miserable 20.9 percent from the field.

UK's starters went a combined 5-for-26 from the field in the first half. Goss didn't make her first shot of the game until 1:16 remained and she hit a runner in the lane that gave UK a 66-65 lead it never relinquished.

Kastine Evans added nine points and Samarie Walker had six points and nine rebounds.

The game started tight with UK gaining a quick 6-4 advantage before Florida reeled off 16 unanswered points. It was the largest run on the Cats in SEC play so far, even more than Tennessee managed in its demolition of UK in Knoxville.

Kentucky responded with its only real offensive burst in the first half, a 15-2 rally fueled by nine points from Snowden.

The Cats fell behind by as many as 13 points again in the second half before using a 15-4 run to climb back into it. A Snowden three-pointer with 13 minutes to go gave UK a 45-44 lead briefly before Florida answered with a three-pointer of its own.
