BOARD ADOPTS NEW SOCCER ALIGNMENT
Beginning with the 2012 season, regional alignments for boys’ and girls’ soccer will resemble those of the other sanctioned team sports in a measure approved at Wednesday’s meeting of the KHSAA Board of Control.
*
“This is an important step in the progression of soccer and one that will allow the sport to grow into a strong geographical alignment like the rest of the team sports,” said KHSAA Assistant Commissioner Michael Barren. “We hope the closer proximity of districts and regions will allow schools that may have been hesitant to add the sport to go ahead and do it now.”
*
The adopted alignment has 16 regions with district alignments based on feedback from the membership and discussion from the Board of Control.
*
“Though this alignment may appear somewhat non-traditional in that regions do not have uniform district sizes, it will allow new schools to add the sport and increase our participants,” said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett.

Talked with Ozz Jackson and he said this was final! Looks good for the next two years!
#50
Strikeout King, suddenly you have to like Estill in the region. I am told they had a large eighth grade team that will be incoming freshman, that was very successful playing Middle School against the Madison County teams. Could get interesting over there...

^ I'm not a big soccer fan but I do follow my Engineers/Lady Engineers in just about every sport

This works out because it leaves room for other school to join in, and it will be easier to put them in a district. Great job by the board of control.

I agree, plus it will allow teams newer to the sport to experience some success earlier, which will help in the growth of the sport in these areas.

The travel times to the regional tournament games were a little too long to me. The trips I have made to Pikeville, Letcher Central, etc. from Corbin(I'm sure that the people coming from that area to this area feel the same way) on work/school nights made it difficult to get through work/school the next day.
#54
The distances were way too long for everyone !!
#55
Looks like there will be a 3rd team in District 54 for the GIRLS. If everything is correct from what I'm hearing Lee county will be the 3rd team. They got enough girls to get one going and should be playing this year. They've already been played in the District with Estill and Wolfe. Jackson City didn't have enough girls to get a team started. Lee County boy's might field a soccer team this upcoming year. Should know something within the next couple weeks
#56
Looks good! Ozz told me the same thing!
#57
Is that girls only or is there going to be a boys team?
#58
Not sure. Haven't heard anymore. I did hear that Lee County girls was starting a team this year but they haven't been added to KHSAA

#60
