The Collins football team opened the Class 4A playoffs with a 49-0 mauling of Moore on Friday night at Robert Doyle Stadium.
Senior Michael Brooks scored three touchdowns, including one off an interception return, and rushed for 55 yards while also recording 12 tackles and one fumble recovery in the Titans' seventh straight victory.
Collins (9-2) will host the winner of tonight's game between Spencer County and Doss in a second-round playoff matchup next Friday night.
Behind Brooks the Titans held the Mustangs (4-7) to 164 yards of offense on their way to their fourth shutout of the season. Collins' defense also held Moore standout Mekale McKay in check. The 6-foot-5 senior, who has committed to play football and basketball at UTEP, completed just 7 of 21 passes for 59 yards with two interceptions and didn't have a reception in the couple of plays that he lined up at wide receiver.
On the other side of the ball sophomore DeAndre Farris rushed for 66 yards in addition to the interception return for a TD he had on defense, while Brooks rushed 10 times for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Darian Dugle rushed seven times for 45 yards and the Titans' first TD - a 15-yard run - in less than one half of action. He suffered a hard hit in the second quarter and was taken to the hospital at halftime. Afterward Collins Coach Jerry Lucas said the results of Dugle's MRI were negative, but his status for next Friday night's game was uncertain.
Meanwhile sophomore quarterback Lawson Page completed 2 of 4 passes for 81 yards. Both of his completions went for TDs, a 38-yarder to senior Jalen Spalding and a 43-yarder to his older brother Andrew, while he had one interception and one dropped pass.
