Who was your favorite boxer of all time?
#1
Not who was the best, but who was your favorite?
#2
Growing up in the Cincinnati area, The Hawk, Aaron Pryor was my favorite!

Ray Boom Boom Mancini was right up there as well. The tragedy in the ring with Kim basicly ended his career

Marvin Hagler was someone I could never get enough of seeing. I still think he was robbed against Sugar Ray, but his destruction of Tommy Hearns and Roberto Duran were incredible displays

Mike Tyson's career ruined boxing forever. I loved what this kid had accomplished. But as soon as Cus D'Amato passed away, his handling went south: His annihilation of opponents were what legends are made of. His own annihilation at the hands of Buster Douglas is a legend in itself. Finally the eating of ears and the face tattoo put him into cartoon land!

Finally, in my top five was Roy Jones Jr. When this guy was at his best, he was the most unbelievable fighter in history. Then, he hit a wall and he went from being the greatest pound for pound fighter ever to a shadow overnight:

I'd like to say Rocky and Ali, but realistically, I never had a connection to them. Marciano was in history books by the time I was old enough to know, and I was too little to remember the great fights Ali had. I was in the 8th grade when Ali fought Holmes. That is my best memory of an Ali fight besides watching video ever sense! So, I can say that those are two of the greatest, but nothing that I ever lived through that makes me truly emotionally connected.

When Damato died so did his career, but he was my favorite in heavywieght bar none he could box and beat the crap out of any opponent plus I think his defense was way under rated

I really liked Duran after his first win over Sugar Ray. Then the maulings that he took from Leonard, Hearns and Hagler ended it for me.
#16
I don't like Ali at all. I like Evander Holifield, but I do wish he would retire..
#17
^ He's still fighting?
#18
Yeah, he's the current WBF Heavyweight Champion.

Last fought July 2011.
#19
Ray Boom Boom Mancini
Cassius Clay...AKA Muhammad Ali
Sugar Ray Leonard
Iron Mike Tyson
Oscar De La Hoya

I was watching the Mancini fight, in 1982, when it resulted in Kim's death. That whole thing was the end of Mancini. Kim's mom commited suicide and the Ref. killed himself as well. Mancini never was the same after that.

Mike Tyson for the win.

Growing up...Tyson was my favorite.

Now, I really like the Klitschko brothers. Never really heard of them until Vitali's match with Lennox Lewis. In my opinion Klitschko had that match won if it hadn't been stopped for the cuts on his face....he was absolute bulldog in that match and Lewis didn't know what hit him.

I know the concensus on Vladimir is that he has a glass jaw, but he is an old school heavyweight fighter....big, strong, methodical.
#22
i always liked jones jr,micky ward,and tyson.

I take it you watched the Ray Mancini story. That was an awesome documentary!

I was always a fan of Tyson and Lennox Lewis.
#25
Tyson and rocky are the best boxers and my favorite too.

When I boxed from 1990-1994 my idol was Joe Frazier. I LOVED watching the old Joe Frazier fights. Frazier will always have a place in my heart. I loved Big George Foreman too. I even loved watching his fights when he was a mean, sullen SOB (before he was the big, loveable teddy bear). I loved watching him carry that big USA flag to the ring when he was being pressured by the black panther movement (basically throwing a big F-U to the movements of that era). Then after I had to quit I started following a young fighter named Arturo Gatti. I loved watching Arturo Gatti, as well as Micky Ward, but Gatti was my favorite fighter to watch, and any fight he was involved, win or lose, was always a blast to watch. So, it would be, in no particular order, Gatti, Ward, Frazier, Foreman.

Mine sure as hell aint Ali.
Truly he was the greatest (at being a joke)

My favorite would have to be Mike-pre crazy days.

And i know im going to get kicked for this, but i like Mayweather. Even with all of his troubles, I dont see how anyone can argue that this guy may be the best of all time.

Roy Jones JR would be in my top 3.

As Dusty said, most "big names" were before our time.
Only thing weve seen from them is video footage, and this isnt anybodys fault, just that boxing has dropped off that much since then. Its the sports fault.

By the way, if i ever get drafted, i will not become a muslim overnight.

Are you kidding????? Mayweather is good but I couldn't agree with the best. And you can't use undefeated for a reason, as he is not the only to do that. But again that is an opinion, so it is what it is, I just can't stand him AT ALL. He is like Chael Sonnen of MMA.

Best of all time: Ali
Favorite: Foreman
Most hated: Mayweather
Toughest: Hopkins
#29
I dont watch boxing but often i use to see WWE, john cena is best
#30
Sugar Ray Leonard was always my favorite for his skill and speed. Mike Tyson before Robin Givens was perhaps the most intimidating fighter in recent history. Although Buster Douglas didn't seem to think so. And of course Ali would rank near the top for me..........he was like the Coach Cal of boxing........he controlled the show outside of the ring just as much as he did once the bell rang.

But I can't mention the best fighters without bringing up the one thing that ruined boxing for me: DON KING
