Jude from JC has really got after his first two challengers. In his first match he pinned the guy in a 74 seconds and in the second match he pinned the guy in a minute and a half. Hope he continues this way but the road to a state title will get tougher from here on out.
#6
Congrats to Letcher Central who has five wins so far. Good Luck Saturday with the rest of your matches.

WHAT SOME BS IN THE SEMI FINALS.....STATE CHAMP INTEGRITY CHECK

Cody Hollond from Perry Central was wrestling in the semi finals against Kyle Durbin of Eastern. Cody picked Kyle up and dropped him back on the mat instead of safely returning him which is a penalty. Kyle used all 5 minutes of his recovery time and wasnt sure at the time if he won or lost if he didnt continue. ( The rule in wrestling is if your opponent gets injured and can not continue due to an illegal slam or hold he wins the match ) So he continues the match.
Time runs out in the first period with Cody leading 2-0, Cody was holding Kyles leg up in a single leg position, Cody did not hear the horn sound or the refs whistle. Roughly 5 seconds after the horn sounded Cody trips Kyle to the mat. The ref calls unnecessary roughness. (Which was the right call) Now Kyle lays on the mat in agony. He convinces the ref that his shoulder is hurt so bad that he can not lift it at all. So the match is stopped and Kyle is awarded the win due to not being able to continue after a penalty point.

Now where it gets a lil shady is less than 4 hours later Kyle goes on to win the state title. During the finals he showed 0 signs of an injured shoulder, and wrestled the #1 ranked wrestler in the state who at the time was undefeated. Im not taking anything away from Kyles finals match because he wrestled great and just wanted it a little more than his opponent. I hate to say I question the integrity of the kid because thats just wrong to do. However, I hate to see this and dont want to see something like this happen in the future.

Congrats Garth, we are very proud of you!

All I can say is WOW. I am not a fan of the KHSAA but I will give them credit. They put on a fine state wrestling tournament. You can read about and you can watch it on ihigh.com but it doesn't compare to being there. My advice is this. If you have ever been or athlete of any sport or have kids that you hope will be athletes, you need to take them to this event one time. It doesn't matter how old or young you are it will make the hair on your neck stand up. It is second to known as state titles go in KY. Congrats to all the winners.

I was there. IT WAS SICKENING!!!!! The Hollon boy was cheated. It was also disgraceful to watch the Eastern fans mocking the Hollon kid after the DQ as he battled for a 3rd or better placing. I personally have no respect for Eastern fans, coaches, and their 215 wrestler. Not only did they “play” and deceive the officials but cheated Hollon and Hardy. The rule was designed to protect players not help them cheat to get a win. Nothing can change my mind THIS WAS WRONG at all levels. Hope your program is proud, everyone saw what happened. I witnessed 7 or 8 coaches appolgize to the Hollon boy for how he was done. I guess cheaters do win.

I tell everyone this. As much as basketball is put on a pedal-stool in this state, its state championship fails to compare to the wrestling championships. It truly is a mind changing event. I tell every coach no matter if their kid makes it to state or not make sure you take them to the championships. It will spark a fire in them like nothing else. I still get goosebumps every year. Luckily this year I was fortunate to be apart of the staff, and cant wait till next year.

As for the Hollon incident, as a KHSAA official I will have to keep my opinion to myself. However, wrestling is a sport in which a community treats everyone like family. Once you are a part of wrestling, you belong to a certain family. With that said, I truly hope the kid from Eastern did not fake an injury to win the match. I did watch the match in which he was injured and he seemed like he was hurt. Everyone involved in the match thought he was hurt bad enough that they wasnt sure if he would even be able to wrestle in the finals.

Anyone have the list of champions?
#27
How was the match allowed to go over 5 seconds without an official touching or grabbing the kids to stop the wrestling? Bad deal all around
#28
Both officials where blowing the whistle and one had his hand raised in front of Cody. They did everything correct. The only time an official will put his hands on a wrestler is if they are hearing impaired.
