Okay rebel mom, the fans never did anything bad. If it was that bad I'm sure something would have been done about it. I can remember back 2 or 3 years ago when the Pburg fans did the Johnny Martin cheer. It's just all in fun. But as for the cheerleaders, they did nothing unsportsmanlike, they were cheering the game, DUH, and as for the dance team, after half time is over and they have danced, well they can do w/e they want, they are just fans like everybody else!

"Being able to cheer for your school in any manner you like" is this a right or a privilege??

What about if you are a varsity player and foul out of a game. Then can you do what you want because you are just a fan? I think if you do something like that for the school, you are still representing your school even if you are on the dance team, cheerleader, or even the waterboy.

It seems to me as if rebel mom is commending Johnny Martin for his actions. Lets look at it in the perspective, I am 17 years-old, Johnny Martin is probably in his 50s, so just because a fan section filled with 16, 17, and 18 year-olds is chanting his name gives him the right to retaliate? Way to represent your school! I see your logic.

School spirit is apart of all sports. You expect for people to be chanting & painted up at games.. What would it be like if people just went to a game & sat there with no enthusiam at all it woule be boring. School spirit shows the fans support their schools & teams.:Cheerlead

The chant IS a tradition and I think I made it clear that Coach Martin LIKES this tradition (he told me that anyway.) I don't think he appreciates the two students- whoever they may be- who made the obscene gestures. However, he told me that he hopes that doesn't stifle the tradition and doesn't muzzle the P-burg student section. It's all in fun! By the way, he is 57, I think, going on 18. lol
You should try to get to know him, he really is a fun guy- I know all the AC students love him!!

:lame: This is a bad rule, it dont make any sense at all, it just makes the game boring if you ask me. I mean its like they are trying to make into golf from what i hear, so that the noise it cut out. Its high school let the students have fun!

You have to wear only your best attire and bring the Good Book along with you.

What happened at the game you had to take your 7 yr old from that she doesnt see or hear on tv? Can you describe some of the bad behavior that went on besides saying it shouldnt be tolerated?

I have one question about this thread, if I may.
Was school spirit in Floyd county killed or did it commit suicide with the immature behavior of a few fans?

While the same language etc... may be seen on TV, that doesn't mean that this particular 7 year old has been exposed to it. Some parents closely supervise what their children are exposed to on TV. On another note, I don't think I would take a 7 year old into the student section of a high school game. Most gyms have a student section and then perhaps a parent section.

I think that is a question that needs to be answered by alot of people. If we as fans would control our mouths and our tempers then we wouldn't have this problem in the first place.
Good question!

The Question That Was Originally Raised Was Why Have Two High Schools ( Prestonsburg and South Floyd ) Been Censored For Certain Behaviors And The Other Two High Schools ( Allen Central And Betsy Layne ) Have Not Been. Seems Like There Are Two Sets Of Rules Governing Student Behavior In Floyd County. Why Can't There Be Equal Punishment Handed Out For Equal Infractions. :rules:  :Skull03:

I Think That This Is A Valid Question. Why Was The Punishment Different For P-Burg And South Floyd?

I'm a little confused on this. A few people are asking why SFHS and PHS are being punished and BLHS and ACHS are not. Can anyone tell me what any of the 4 schools did or were accused of doing? I've read a little bit one here and in the FCT times about fighting.
SFHS and PHS at a Freshmen/JV boys basketball game.
SFHS and BLHS at a Varsity game boys basketball game.
What exactly did ACHS do? I've not seen anything on here conerning them about a fight or anything. Of course with the numer of threads and posts- I certainly could have missed it. Are these "censors" a result of the fights?

It is utterly obvious that in every crowd there will be kids who are quite immature, and then there are the kids who have great school spirit and give their team everything they have. Should the actions of two or three kids call for punishment of upwards of 200?
Good question!

i agree with catsfan072 and jayblackcat2006....why should south floyd and prestonsburg get punished and besty layne and allen central get nothing done to them???????????????..i mean i understand allen central not being punished because i rlly havent heard of anything that they've done. But besty layne on the other hand are more responsible for that high school basketball fight than south floyd. You know i would have to say south floyd and prestonsburg have the BEST pep sections in this county and probably one of the best out of the state, so why shouldn't we get to represent that???

That is your opinion on the SF and BL fight. SF says the ex-student (the only BL person involved) started it and he (the ex-student) says he was jumped after he went to the bathroom and spoke to a SF girl. So, who really knows. All I know is that I was at the game and that was the only person from BL that was involved in the altercation. I personally think SF got more in trouble because of all the arguments and pushing that went on with only SF people after the 1st one was broke up.
My opinion is that each school should get to have a pep section and support their team as long as they do that and not try to start something with the other side. Cheer for your team and leave it at that, after all that is what a pep section is for.

I want to know why everyone's jumping on to Betsy Layne?... At the South Floyd game, as i remember, south floyd fans absolutely FLED the floor after the game.. and Someone threw a punch at justin collins(bl) and then a few of the "crazies" actually went CRAZY and starting acting really stupid. No betsy layne should not be on probation... Betsy Layne has shown nothing but class at these games and i believe everyone needs to calm down instead of trashing other schools because of their poor display of sportsmanship.
