56th District
#31
Its gonna be a hard year this is a very hard district.... I think it will once again be Powell vs. Estill in the final game but this year Powell will come out on top.
#32
I think Estill an Lee in finals. Should make for a good game. Lee by 7.
#33
As i posted in 56th District Finals thread. Lee will come out on top. I'm expecting Charles to have a big season and looking forward to watching him.
#34
Has anyone heard anything about Evans transferring from Owsley to Powell?
#35
Should be between Lee and Estill in the final.
#36
Looks good to me.

I think this district is a toss up with everyone in it... Each team has some really good players!

1. estill - returns 4 starters and superstar tristan cacklin, greta defensive player in roberts, hoover is good, and wiseman dominates the boards
2.lee- huge team with charles leading the way, new transfer pittman , wise , campbell and te big boy pelfrey
3. owlsley- evans and murril good combo
4. powell- crowe can play defense a little bit and has a terrible temper, for some reason people think hawkins can lead them but how can u do that when u cant even control ur emotions , 0-6 in district play

How about you learn how to spell a little before you try to talk trash?

1. Lee- Brings back almost every playmaker from last season. Charles top 5 player in region.
2.Powell- Hawkins is a very talented guard. Crowe and Hawkins should be a very good senior combo for powell.
3.Estill- Bring back four starters from last season. Cackling is one heck of a player.
4.Owsley-Led by Deven Evans. Dont see them doing much.

uk hoops Wrote:I hope that Salyers does come to the Owls nest, Timmy Murrell and Salyers will be a great combo inside then they will have Zack Taylor, Nick Noble Devin Evans rounding out the starting five, with Tyler Williams and Jordan Hardy and a host of others coming off the bench. I think that the 56th will be very interesting in 08/09!!!!

Salyers is at PCC.

1. LEE COUNTY---Great returning talent in Charles, Pelfrey, and Wise. Also some good transfering talent in Pittman and another. Should easily lead the distric, IMO.

2. POWELL COUNTY--Good returning talent in Hawkins, Crowe, Rice, and Arvin. Also I look for some underclassmen to step up in varsity in Creech and Reed. Also some talented underclass big men in Fraley and Scott may be a factor. This team has lots of heart and should surprize lots of people.

3. ESTILL COUNTY--Also good returning talent in Cackling, Wisemen, and Roberts. Lost key leader in Christopher, not sure Cackling can lead the team quite like he did. Overall should be a pretty dangerous team judging by the talent.

4. OWSLEY COUNTY--I see Evans being their sole leader, not even sure about that, i have heard talk of him transferring to Powell. Burill should be another key player. Overall a decent team, but not a threat at the title.

Estill will be better than Powell this year imo, but I could be wrong. I just don't see Powell posing a threat to Estill, and neither one posing much of a problem for Lee. Lee is probably a top 3 to 4 team in the region. Estill is hosting the district this year, though, and that could be an advantage for them. They lost only one starter from last year, and although he was a good one, they should be able to be better than they were in '08.

Devin had plans to move to Powell. He found out he would have to sit out this year and he mostly wanted to play with Hawkins so they really was no need in moving.

If you were talking about Estill. They lost two starters that I can think of. A great, agressive guard in Blake Christopher and a great shooter in Josh Napier. The absence of these two will hurt Estill more than people think.
However, Lee lost two starters as well, but I don't think Drake and Taulbee were as big of factors as the Engineer's Seniors.

IMO
Lee will take the district title this year. With Charles, Pelfrey, Wise, and Campbell they should be solid with alot coming from the bench.
Estill returns alot of players that didn't really shine last year with the exception of Cackling, who can play ball with anyone.
Powell and Owsley are a toss up that I haven't decided who has the advantage yet. But I don't see how people can put Powell at the top of the district when they lost so much.

Powell is not the #1 team in the district but they will contend for the second place spot with Estill. Never know what can happen come district tourney time.

Powell will be underreated... They are going to show some ppl that they can play some ball... Look for Crowe an Hawkins to have a big senior year... Good luck Pirates

Napier is a great shooter but only started a portion of the year. They have 4 players back who started a good portion of the year. Estill also has a Freshman district championship squad to throw in the mix with 2 top ten to fifteen players in Cackling and Hoover and a top 20 player in Roberts and an improving big man in Wiseman. They will battle Lee for all they want IMO.

look for the pirates to go all the way

catsfan08 Wrote:i think jon conley will have a good senior as well as hawkins and crowe

Hawkins will have a solid year. He won't make the spectacular plays, but he is scrappy and will improve each game, if not each minute of each game . . . as long as he keeps his emotions in check.

Crowe has the ability to be a good player, but he has to get his head in the game. He's TOO emotional and has too much of a temper. A strategic opposing coach would put in a scrub to mess with Crowe's head and get the quick "T" on him.

Everyone else on Powell is a project, but there is a lot of potential there.

As far as big men go, Arvin, Conley, Rice, Blake and Scott are all 6'4"+, with bulky bodies to go with the height. That's a heck of a group to have running in and out without concern about foul trouble.

Bringing the ball up the court will be a bigger concern as Creech, an undersized sophomore, is their only true point guard. Hawkins, Crowe and Reed will have to be able to get breaking a press by dribbling out of their head and be ready to look up and pass the ball up the court incrementally.

Are they district championship material right now? No. Could they be at the end of the year? Most definitely. They can realistically run 10 guys in and out all night long. Fans will have to have patience, though, as they remember that not a one of these guys, with the slight exception of Hawkins and Crowe, received any quality playing time last year and neither of them were starters.

If they play smart and Coach Hall, an X's and O's type of coach, keeps their emotions in check, they could realistically be putting another banner on the wall in Stanton.

I'll go with Lee Co. With the trio of Charles, Pelfry and Pittman, I think the other three teams in the district will struggle with their size and athletic ability. Their key to success at the regional level is the point guard position.
Good luck Bobcats

I Think Its A Toss Up Lee Co And Estill Co Lee Does Not Have Football So It Will Help Them Early But At The End Of The Year Estill Will Be Ready For Them. Powell And Owsley Will Be Down This Year And Wii Play For 3rd And 4th.
